Also don't set the memory multiplier, just set the memory to auto, or just load optimized defaults. Are you loading XMP? Did you run memtest with the memory at 24x? Did you run memtest in windows or in dos?

I tired making the rig builder a few times and it doesn't seem to pop up in my signature. My PSU is a Corsair TX650w. All I did was set XMP to profile 2 and that would get me my settings. Ran Memtest off a boot-able USB drive. Since I dropped it down to 1600 I have been rock stable going to give it another day of this before I start RMAing with Gskill unless you have something else I can check out?

I have a Seasonic Plat 1000 sitting here but I was waiting to use that for when my Caselabs get here

Ah, working on the rig now as you can see.

So apparently it takes a lot more than just setting your vcore and multiplier to get a stable overclock with this chip :/

Trying for 4.4GHz right now. Was Prime95 stable for about an hour at 1.2v but the BSOD so now I'm trying again with a slight bump in Vrin to see what that does.

Also this chip is responding weirdly to various stress tests. In the past LinX would get my CPU 10C or so hotter than Prime. Here, Prime is actually outstressing... for some of the tests temps go insane.

Have you tried windows memtest? I heard someone say that on Z77 it would spit errors while DOS wouldn't. Probably a dumb question but you have tried profile #1 right? Try also system agent to +0.15v and CPU IO A to + 0.1v and CPU IOD to +0.15v? I would also set dram voltage to 1.65v see if that helps. BTW in the future if you want rock solid memory with GB boards I recommend kingston or corsair as they are very close with gigabyte and do a lot of validation. Have you also tried just setting 24x memory multiplier and seeing if that works? I am trying to find the QVL list, has anyone else found it?

Try this also:
Set LLC to Extreme
Set VRIN to 2v
Set ring voltage to 1.15v
if memory is really high take it down a notch
don't touch the BCLK, you can set 100.00 if you like

You might need more volts tho, you shouldn't' be hitting 80C until 1.22-1.25v depending on cooling and CPU.

damn I really need to get my OC Guide up...

Thanks. I'm actually testing at 1.2vcore, 2.0vrin, 1.10ring, 44x on processor and ram running at 2133 (rated speed).
Will make the LLC change and increase ring a little if it's still not stable.

Temps are quite reasonable, under 60C for the most part although there is ONE prime95 test that sends them all the way up to 79-80C...

I would say I think your culprit might be CPU VCore, so try LLC extreme, then try 1 step higher vcore until you get it, I wouldn't increase ring much more than 1.15v 24/7. Yea Prime95 lol it loves to heat your CPU up, but it makes for a damn good heater in the winter biggrin.gif

Profile 1 is a slower speed so I never tried it, guess I should have before I wasted your time sorry. Im gonna go poke around in the bios now and try out the widnows test. I guess if I cant get it stable ill RMA it for some Corsair or Kingsten

hey man you aren't wasting my time, I enjoy helping people. I just am giving you guys different ideas to try, that is odd that profile 2 is higher speed than profile 1, profile 2 is usually lower.. Try profile 1 and see if that helps OC the memory.

Hey which memory do you have exactly?

BIOS F6C is extremely unstable after boot! No more freezing within BIOS, but I freeze immediately running a stress tests when OCed using the same settings as I would with F5. Even overshooting vcore requirements would not make it stable.

So far, I've only been able to boot with 2200mhz on the ram.

Yeah, my chip blows.

4x4gb for 16 total

I just checked out the profiles again and I must be crazy cause now it shows the same speed but slightly different timings. In this pic its set to XMP 1 but the speeds dont match the profile. Could that be the cause of the instability? Im running MemTestPro right now to test it on profile 1. Also this kit is rated 2133 out of the box

It must have a microcode update to be changing things, have you tried any of the auto OC profiles? Might want to load one and then use it as a base line. THe performance profiles are for memory + CPU OC and the CPU upgrade is CPU Only.

With the generic samsung are you setting the multiplier only or are you also setting timings and such?

yea it seems the second profile is setting T1 instead of T2. This is your kit right? http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=222
How old is that kit? I can't really find anything on it, it looks like G.skill made a few and then stopped for some reason which is very odd. If you check their site they didn't update its compatibility for Z87, I am guessing it might have some issues with the platform. Try profile 1 as long as it sets T2 I think you will be okay.
