Hello Guys wink.gif
Since i got my Gigabyte Mainboard i got an frustrating problem :/
First of all my system

System:
CPU Intel Core i5 4670k
Mainboard Gigabyte Z87 HD 3
Ram Avexir AVD3U13330904G-4CI
PSU BeQuiet P7 650Watt
Graphics card Asus HD 5870
Wlan card (PCI) D Link DWL G520
Soundcard (PCI) Creative sound blaster x-fi xtreme gamer fatal1ty pro
SSD Samsung SSD 840 250GB
HDD Western Digital WD1002FAEX

i bought that Mainboard, connected everything, installed Windows 8 and thought good it seems that everything is working well. But then, after the windows installation the computer have to restart.
my computer was doing that and after the windows boot screen the pc turned off and started again. i already thought *** is going on and why the pc turns off itself without a failure.
After the computer tries to start again he gets to the windows automatic repair, where i can choose restart and some other bull****. When i take restart the computer turns itself again off and gets to the windows automatic repair again. If i turn the computer off and start it again the same crap happens.
i can only fix that problem, when i unplug the psu and wait the everything is discharged. after i plug in the psu cable again and start the computer everything works fine. it runs stable at games etc. and the temps are all fine. So that start problem happens when the windows installation is completed and the computer have to restart. normally i have to configure windows thing like username etc. if the computer would start after the windows installtion.
Sometimes that problem comes, if windows installed some updates but not everytime.
Another akward thing is, if i install Samsung Magician and try to start it, the computer turns off itself again, like i would unpluge the psu cable.

Here is one situation after windows installed updates

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoERmAjwfDg

All that problems are under Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. So the OS isnt the failure.
What have i done yet?

  • i tried a bios reset
  • I made i bios update to F7 (newest)
  • I unpluged all cards (Soundcard, Wlan card,Graphics card), so only CPU and Ram is installed on the mainboard
  • i tried different ram (Kingston Hyperx)
  • i installed Windows 7/8.1 on the SSD (all other drives were disconnected) and installed Windows 7/8.1 on my HDD (SSD disconnected) with the same problems. So the failure shouldn't be the SSD or the HDD.

I dindt tested an other PSU (i will try that on the weekend) but i think the failure should be the psu, because it works fine with my old system.

So i guess it has something to do with that UEFI crap or with the dual bios i dont know.

And know i dont know what i can do next. the mainboard is already checked from the shop where i bought it. but i dont believe the tested it probably .

I found someone in another forum, who discripes a similar problem.

HD3 might have default SATA mode as IDE instead of AHCI you might need to change that

Curious. Let us know if that fixes it for you?

I have the z87x-ud5. I purchased this system used and have a question about 9 pin usb2 ports. I noticed that my internal multi card reader was not working and found that the 9 pin usb2 connector was connected incorrectly (I think) to the COM port, thus the card is not working. The connector was off center and no pins were damaged on the COM port.

When I looked for a free motherboard 9 pin usb2 port I found two but they are both in use. 1 goes to the corsair 100i cooler and the other one goes the fractal-r4 front top usb2 panel. So how do I connect the internal card reader to the motherboard? There are two usb3 motherboard ports . The one on the bottom of the motherboard is connected to the fractal r-4 usb3 ports on the top. The other usb3 port (center right) on the motherboard is not in use. Would you purchase another card read (this time usb3) to make use of the remaining usb3 motherboard port, or is there another way to connect the existing usb2 9 pin card reader to the motherboard?

why does your cooler need a mainboard usb 9pin port?!
if you dont need the front pannel usb then take it out and put the card reader in it.

if you cant get rid of the front panel or the corsair cooler you have to buy a new card reader or you take an adapter like this one
