C6/C7 was definitely disabled in the bios..

so i dont get that problem with the old psu biggrin.gif

You need to also make sure that Power Loading is enabled in the BIOS. As far as I can see from other forum discussion, power loading is there to make some amount of current consumption even when the CPU goes to the latest/lowest power states. This way the power supply will not become confused by the low power consumption of the CPU.

To clarify for anyone else wondering; my conclusion about power loading (from reading other forums) is:
- for new power supply which supports Haswell, power loading should be disabled because the power supply will not become confused when processor goes to C6/C7 states; therefore the CPU will go to it;s low power states and the user will see the benefit of power saving (because the BIOS will not artificially load the power supply)
- for older power supply which does not explicitly support Haswell, Power Loading should be enabled; this helps keep the power supply happy even when the CPU is in low power states.

My MoBo and CPU should be arriving in the next few days. I will be reading through this thread over the next few days to try and make myself aware of any issues or extra steps that may be needed. But I do have a few questions, in the meantime:

1. I will only be replacing the MoBo and CPU, from my sig rig. Is there any known issues with my components?
2. I run 7.1 surround sound, from a receiver. Is the Line Out jack, on the onboard audio an SPDIF out? I know the board has an Optical out, but I generally opt for coax out, due to optical's limitations.
3. Does the H100 fit without any issue?
4. Does the software package play nicely with Windows 8.1?
5. Is the SATA power connector(for PCIe lanes) necessary for non-SLI systems? I have a 780 ti OC Windforce 3, and I do plan on overclocking it.

That is all that I can think of at the moment. Maybe some of this will be answered in the thread. I look forward to all of the info.

And thanks, Sin, for the wealth of knowledge here.

Okay, I have answered some of my questions through heavy reading and research.

1. I read that some OCZ drives perform poorly on this MoBo. I have an OCZ Vertex 3 120gb. Could anyone confirm or deny this? I'd rather get another SSD if this one will perform poorly.
2. No, the line out will not feed 7.1 and of course, neither will the optical. So, my receiver only has a pass-thru for up to 60hz. I have a 120hz full spectrum LED 50" that I use for gaming/htpc. This being the case, I will run an HDMI, directly from the GPU HDMI out, to the TV. Where should I run the HDMI to the receiver from? Onboard HDMI or the second HDMI out on the GPU?
3. From what I can tell, it doesn't appear as though there is an issue with mounting the H100 to this MoBo.
4. Looks like they designed it on 8, so I doubt there will be any issues with 8.1.
5. Still not sure on this one. I doubt I'll need it. I'm sure my HX750 will supply more than enough power to the 780ti OC Windforce3.

I have another question, I don't care for red. My case is lit with xenon white tubes and blue LEDs. Has anyone removed the heat sinks and polished them to a shine? I'm considering doing this and was wondering if it would have any effect on their cooling abilities. Never done anything like this before. I will likely start a new thread, elsewhere to address this.

1. if it does you can just switch to the onboard Marvell ports, they are the gray SATA ports.

5. nope you don't need it, its only required for 4-way SLI/CF usually, even 3 and 2 way multi-GPU systems don't really need it. but it is there incase you will bench the board or want extra PCi-E power for dual GPU cards.

The red is only decorative, you can remove all the colors with enough force(i think the large red parts are held on with double sided thermal tape. The other parts look glued on. You can honestly run without VRm heatsinks if you wanted, id leave the PCh heatsink on tho.

Thanks Sin. Any chance that the heat sinks from the UD5H would fit in the UD4H?

Is the Marvel controller more efficient for SSDs than the Intel?

I think the UD4H & UD5H vrm heatsinks are swappable, judging by the Alphacool waterblocks available....but they don't say anything about UD3H being compatible.

Thanks for the info. Guess that wouldn't help my cause too much.

I've been studying pictures of the heat sinks. What Sin said is true. It looks like the heat sinks are just decorated. I may just pull them off and paint the decorative pieces. A little zinc oxide and a coat of my choice of metallic blue paint will fix this. But what is the thermal compound used for the contact? Paste? Pads? If its pads, are they reusable?

Trying to get my ducks in a row to get this done when the parts get here. I've been without a proper PC for a week and a half now. :'(

Not sure what they use...but if it's TIM strip you can reuse it unless it's really messed up. Otherwise use whatever you want. There may be nothing underneath for all I know....

Thanks again.

While I'm waiting for the MoBo and CPU to get here, I've started taking other components apart, for spray. I'll make a thread when things start progressing more, with details. I'll say this for now, fk me, the 780ti OC Windforce3 was a bear to disassemble!

Hi.

I have a UD3H and the board just recognize my Evo 120 and optical drive.
I bought yesterday one WD Blue 1tb and two Seagate's 1tb, both new, plugged into intel sata ports but the board insists only recognize my Evo and Pioneer, even on Marvell the hard drives its not detect, only ssd.

I tried disconnected the ssd and tested the hard drives one by one and the board still not detecting, tried changing cables psu, updating to the F9 bios, clear cmos, UEFI settings, everything.
Anyone have any idea what it might be? or better send to RMA?

My board hate hard drives!
