No problems and it cleaned it up decently.

Just take your time. No rushing and be careful.

Testing as we speak. Looks like I'm getting another good 7-8C drop. Not to mention I'm running at a higher voltage too!

Gonna delid my with the vise/hammer once I get my mobo and WC blocks. One question I got is what do you use to clean off the old TIM from the DIE and IHS? Would the Arctic Silver cleaner work or I need to buy something else?

Ok, sounds like this haswell i5 may be looking pretty good. Do the lower temps and higher voltages buy you higher clocks?

Cool, now crank up the ghz and volts!

UPDATE!

I wasn't satisfied with my results so I re-did the application with CLU. I realized there was a big gap in the middle of the die since I had to shift the IHS a bit when clamping it onto the motherboard. I applied a bit more CLU than last time and now temps went down by another 3C!

So now I'm looking at a 17C drop! This meets pretty much the expected values of a delid using CLU!

I actually used IC Diamond this time around between my IHS and cooler as it is just very easy to apply. Stupidly I forgot I'm supposed to let the solvent evaporate with a 10min wait period so I'll reseat again later tonight or tomorrow. I'm pretty satisfied with the temps for now. Maybe I'll lap if I feel like I need to. But for the time being, I'll be cranking up the GHZ and voltage and see what a 4.5 brings!

Idle temp: ~33C
Avg load temp: ~48-53C
Peak temp: 66C

17C drop is pretty much what I was hoping for!

That's really excellent. Looks like you got some headroom to play with now. Your avg load temps look downright chilly at 4.3ghz, and just on air, a very decent air cooler to be sure. The peak is so far over the average load temp. Is that typical of IB and/or SB cpus too or is that a new for haswell phenomena? I don't see that big a delta with my first gen i7.

You put regular TIM over the small caps on the pcb it looks like. One thing about a thicker layer of CLU that would spook me is having it squeeze out and run/flow into those caps after being clamped onto a vertically mounted board. CLU remains in a liquid state, is that right?
