If you think the start screen is already cluttered, that will just add on to the supposed mess, not to mention it would render right clicking in the start screen useless. I wouldn't want the taskbar always visible either. I keep mine hidden and prefer it that way. If you're that serious about needing to copy a file over to another destination, just right click -> open location and drag and drop. Barely enough clicks to call it an inconvenience.

1. Because currently it's a mess. Why should you have two taskbars for running apps ? The icon of a modern app on the taskbar would work perfectly well. In case you don't know the Windows 7 taskbar was enlarged to make touch easier, so why not take advantage of that and have a unified experience where all your programs, be they desktop apps or modern apps are all accessible from the same place, allowing you to switch quickly between them ?

2. The point of the taskbar is to also quickly switch between apps. Having to deal with one taskbar and another hidden taskbar is clunkier.

3. Why would showing the taskbar on the Start screen make right-clicking useless ? If anything, righ-clicking should bring a rich context menu with all the options you already have on the desktop.

4. You don't have to have the taskbar always visible, what I mean is that it should be visible on the Start screen in the same way as it is visible on the desktop, so any customizations you would have, like having it auto-hide would apply in both cases.

5. Having it open the location means context switching again as Metro goes away and the desktop returns. It's a clunky experience.

Windows 8.1= sucks.1 It looks like they basically repackaged the same stuff I didn't like about it in the first place, or maybe I'm just too old! biggrin.gif

Might be OK for tablets and touchscreens but I don't see it as replacing Windows 7

Well that was interesting. But nothing impressive. Improvments that were necessary and planned i think.
I would like to see the improvments for desktop based systems which makes win8 finally interesting.
Atleast im a little mad i missed the 30 dollar upgrade deal but only if we´ll see the start button and direct boot into the desktop mode.

Microsoft, stop making the "metro interface" happen... it is NOT going to happen.
On the other hand, some of the crucial features are back! smile.gif

$40 upgrade + $5 Start8 app = OK upgrade

I didn't care for Win8 but I couldn't pass up the upgrade offer for $40. I upgraded from Vista which was a "drut of a different color" Adding the Start8 app makes it very useable for my lappie without having to spend $75-100 to upgrade to Win7

Being "scared" has NOTHING to do with it.

Just because I don't like cauliflower doesn't mean that I am SCARED of it. It's just personal choice.

Just as you must be sick of people trashing Windows 8, I am sick and tired of people like you who say that "People are SCARED of change".

Do you and the others even know the MEANING of the word? I seriously doubt it.

So do yourself a favor and just stop using the term scared in an inappropriate manner.
