I would like to point out - just because it has an update means it was unfinished? Guess that goes for every single piece of software (including your beloved Windows 7). XP SP2 added tons of features as well. Does that mean it was unfinished? Put on a thinking cap, stop crapping the same babble out of your fingertips every time you post. You're not right. Nobody is. It's preference. Get this thought out of your head that your word is gospel.

Lol. Nonsensical ? I was answering your baby duck accusation, you're the one that comes with nonsensical arguments (like saying I'm being nonsensical) when you run out of arguments, not to mention insulting.

So making the search results appear all in one go instead of in categories that required additional clicks - an obvious regression over Windows 7, isn't something that shouldn't be there from the start ? Minimizing context switching by making the desktop background picture appear on the Start screen isn't an obvious thing that should be there from the beginning ? Allowing people to boot straight to the desktop wasn't an obvious thing to have there from the beginning ? Oh wait, it WAS there, but they removed it for the final version because they really wanted to shove the store down people's throats. Customers shouldn't have to pay the usability price for lack of optimization for tablets and the fact Microsoft was / is late to the game. But that is actually what happened.

Your word isn't gospel either, I'm just making suggestions and explaining them. You on the other hand come into every single Windows 8 thread to do a "inb4 windows 8 haters" and "oh wait". When that adds absolutely nothing to the discussion.

They better make it available through Windows update and / or as a separate download from their site, otherwise this will be just another occasion where Microsoft's desperation to have people log onto Windows with a Microsoft account and visit the store will backfire.

People using local accounts that don't want anything from the store shouldn't have to go through all Microsoft really wants in order to get this update.

Assuming Microsoft packages the update in a way that makes it possible. In any case, I don't like the idea of downloading such type of software from torrents for security reasons. Most likely solution is to download the whole Windows 8 with the 8.1 update ISO from Digital River.

What makes you think Windows 9 will be any different?

Microsoft seems pretty committed to the ModernUI, if that's in fact your problem with 8 which I'm assuming it is.

Pretty sure a standalone 8.1 .iso will be made available by Microsoft somehow, no need to worry, either by Digital River or DreamSpark.

Assuming MS wants to keep everyone happy and not just a small % they should have no issues with the next OS unless it's a re-hash of Win 8.

XP and Win 7 are the most favorable OS's under MS's belt (Vista and Win 8 failed IMO) of course Vista was updated and fixed decades after it released but still encountered issues when it came to old SW compatibility. MS could have done better with Win 8, the OS is not bad it just has annoyances that many users don't like.

It's a tablet OS, and it's great for that specific market. For PC's it seems like a step backwards.

Well, I don't know about you, but I rarely (if ever) browse the All Apps screen to find a program. If it isn't already pinned to my taskbar, I just search for it.

Tablet OS huh? Step backwards for PC?

I guess Windows 8 doesn't come with:

- Better CPU multi-core scheduling
- Better SSD compatibility and general improvements (stability and speed)
- WDDM 1.2
- Native DirectX 11.1 support
- Lighter/faster Kernel
- Better Security
...

Talk about judging a book by its cover.

PC sales have been declining prior to the release of Windows 8, so usage numbers can't be taken into account when judging Windows 8.

The start menu is gone, bud. Windows 8 is the future of Windows, for better or for worse. Most of you are going to have to learn to live with it, or buy consoles to enjoy your games. That's about the jist of it. This is Microsoft. They can and will do this. Why? Cause big corporations, gamers, and everyone who relies on the Microsoft ecosystem for work, entertainment or otherwise, and everything that comes with it, aren't going to pick up and switch. They have the market by the proverbial testicles. If you think otherwise you must be delusional, lol.

I should point something out: I'm not against choice. Should there be a choice? Perhaps. However, there isn't. You're going to have to deal with it, because it's Microsoft. I used to prefer the start menu, but ever since switching to 8 in August of last year, I've gotten more productive. I get things done faster. It's really a power users dream.

I'm not delusional, I just don't like the OS. For now I will keep using Win 7 until it's EOL. Just like I did with XP, jumped from XP to Win 7 w/o any issues.
