i7 930 @ 4 ghz to i7 4770k? - Page 6

Damnit, guys. Maybe I'll just get an SSD and be done with it!
I believe I said it in my first comment; but your gaming performance will be almost identical. Only in games like SC2 would you notice anything.

Maybe get a second 7970, SSD, and 1440p monitor...then you can wait it out a long time.

I had 6970s in crossfire and they were a stuttering nightmare compared to the 7970s which i don't feel like there is serious latency issues even when the frame rate is below the monitor refresh rate, the only games i've had stuttering issues with are Farcry 3 and Assassins creed 3 other than that everything i play runs pretty smooth.

I can't even deal with a small amount of microstuttering. Maybe in the future if the AMD drivers actually do work magic.

I've always been a big fan of AMD cards, but their drivers are absolutely horrendous. I think I'll be satisfied enough to last another year with no upgrades with this purchase of a good SSD.

The only advantage haswell has is that it can clock higher then most bloomfiields.... wink.gif

Oh okay, I was totally wrong then. I knew that the Q9400 to a i7 920 was one of the last worthwhile upgrades haha. I thought that the Q9400 was alright for gaming though and that the cache didn't matter all that much? I just put it down to the architecture being old. (Essentially 2x E5200's or whatever it was)

I bought one of those and LOVE IT! That will likely have a more noticeable impact in windows performance than any other upgrade. The windows search feature functions faster than google. So thats nice. And don't worry about degradation of the drive. There was a test on a site like tweaktown they tried to see how much data they could write to that drive and they got up to and over a petabyte and it was still churning! Plus, that SSD you can just pop in a new machine when you decide to upgrade. It likely won't get blown out by some new tech for a while (~6 Years)

Note: The Samsung 840 SSD is in my friends machine! As i couldnt afford it but had to snag it since it was only 250 usd! Its in his machine with a Phenom 1 9500 and its still mega fast!
