Makes me think of MGS4, a lot of people hated it, I still think is one of the best games ever made. I loved all the time spent at those 30min cutscenes. It just creates a complete immersion.

I haven't bought a PS3 game in a long time. I don't think I'll pick this one up. Console games are just to expensive. On top of that I have to import them, so it gets worse.

And I'm hyped as hell, I must admit. I think I'll just pick up the GOTG tongue.gif edition.

Well, I would rather watch a movie for story and play games for something else. B/c linear games are like movies to me, you mostly have no influence on the world, no exploration. I feel like in a very very long hall/cave and the only option is to go forward. It's makes me feel stupid.

there it is...your personal preference.

Doesn't mean a game shouldn't get killer reviews because you would rather play sandbox games and have more freedom.

It's like whining Uncharted is too linear....if they give you freedom there's no way to put in the action set-pieces the series is so well known for.

I'm tired of people saying they don't care about story, if they want story they'll read a book. A game is an interactive media which has evolved to encompasse more than just capturing the essence of 'fun'

What type of games usually get the best reviews? Story-driven games.

The IGN reviewer called naughty dog the best developer in gaming, and that the last of us the best game on PS3. People in here complaining it got a 10 and they haven't even played the game. /rant

Been looking forward to this since the first trailer. Preordered.

Yeap, Sony must've paid 50+ gaming publications to get this critically acclaimed status.

Not srs.

Just trying playing the last 2 games developed by Naughty Dog and you can understand why these scores are possible. They optimize the aged PS3 to hell and back and have mastered the art of creating cinematic set-pieces in the gaming industry.
Yes and no, just not so much in the traditional sense from big publishers

it's all about kick starter from the likes of minecraft and star citizen.

Lol.

Nothing about my post was aggressive in any way, nor was it cynical or bitter. Implying it was would be putting words in my mouth and showcasing a lack of understanding of word comprehension.

You lot have very different personalities to mine and will never understand my objective thought process and that's fine but I'm not going to waste my time trying to get you to understand it and why I made that comment. So continue to push your personal opinions on others with the gang/pack approach but leave me out of it because I have better things to do like finish my water loop.

Really? Gamerankings top 10:

Mario Galaxy
OOT
GTA IV
Mario Galaxy 2
Soul-Calibur
Mario 64
Metroid Prime
Tekken 3
The Last Of Us
Uncharted 2

So yeah, a grand total fo 2 story-driven games in the top 10. Outside of that it's Halo, GTA III, Portal, Half Life, Skyrim and a bunch of others.

The best reviewed games aren't story-driven, they're games with groundbreaking mechanics who innovate the industry. Half-Life for its physics engine and being a precursor to games like Portal. Zelda for its unrivaled level design, GTA and Skyrim for the sheer amount of content and freedom. Uncharted belongs nowhere near that list. Mediocre gameplay coupled with mediocre plot doesn't warrant a 95%. But hey, I guess these credible ''reviewers'' are more impressed by pre-determined action scenes than by good mechanics or inventive puzzles. Gameplay wise, Uncharted was bad to mediocre. If you give a lot of importance to graphics and interactive cinema, then I can understand you giving it a score close to 10. If you enjoy games for how the play and the depth of their content, this game won't appeal to you.

As for the arguments above. 10/10 is a perfect score. No way around that. Why put it if they're not gonna use it? Simple, when you want to grade something, you have to put it on a scale so people can have an easier time understanding your opinion. By default, if you use numbers you have no choice but to have a perfect grade on the scale.

Edit: And for what it's worth I think Majora's Mask is a perfect game with absolutely no flaws. Only game I think of which I'd personally give a 10.

Metroid Prime and OOT are definitely "story driven" games too, but you're correct, most of the top rated games aren't. uncharted IMO is a set piece fest strung together by QTE, auto-platforming and clunky gunfights. me personally would give no game a perfect 10 except one of the games I am hopelessly biased towards. biggrin.gif the last of us looks better than uncharted as far as the whole story/atmospheric vibe trhey like to go for.

OOT's story was mediocre and most people agree on that. Orphan boy who grows up to defeat the King of Evil who wants to conquer the world? The story was bad, the gameplay and level design unparalleled. OOT was long, had tons of side quests and you'd often stray from the main plot to explore the world and discover different things(which kills the whole ''story-driven'' argument). It was not driven by its story.

Metroid Prime is in the same ballpark. The story was pretty ok but what made it so praised was the game mechanics and how they basically translated Super Metroid in 3D without hurting it.

OOT and Metroid Prime have some of the best gameplay you can find. Uncharted was...average in that department. It was great for its set-pieces, voice acting and action sequences.

Well when you strip down any story to its bare bones in a single sentence, its going to sound mediocre. To be technical, the "orphan boy" doesn't grow up in the traditional sense. He didn't get to live out his childhood and teenage years. I think what he does along the story is just as important and intriguing. The people he meets and places he sees along the way is part of the story.

For example.
Lord of the Rings: A hobbit walks barefooted to a far away mountain to destroy a ring.
