The best AM3+ motherboard in my opinion is my very own Asus Sabertooth. Simply bulletproof and durable as you can get. The thing is built for abuse and overclocking and with the high amounts of juice these FX chips suck down, thats important. If youre on a tight budget, the Gigabyte 990FX-UD3 is an excellent choice. 8+2 power phase, dual video cards and usually around $130.

For RAM, G Skill or Corsair are generally my favorite but really, anything from a name brand will be good quality. 8GB is usually about right. 4GB is fine if youre trying to cut a little costs.

For the CPU, the Phenom II X4 965 can generally be had for around $90 here in the states. Get that along with a Cooler Master Hyper 212+, overclock up to around 3.8 with a 2600 MHz CPU/NB and youve got a very solid processor. This would be a good option to save some cash elsewhere. Otherwise, get the FX-8320. the Hyper 212 will still be a good value cooler but wont have enough muscle to get you the highest overclocks with your 8320. Youll still be able to get pretty decent OC'ing with it though.

For power supplies, I recommend, Corsair TX, HX or AX series, pretty much any series from XFX and Seasonic, Kingwin's Platinum line is excellent as well. 650 watts is about the range youll be wanting to get.

Win7 for the operating system cause I dont like Metro and want my Start button plus I keep reading about compatibility issues with all kinds of things with Win8.

You should also let us know somewhat about your budget so we can recommend video cards and such.

Also Windows 8 is bringing back the start button and is actually faster than 7, never had any compatibility issues either.

We really need more information that you have provided us with!! Really need a little more information on the direction you want to go beside 950 dollars. Do you want AMD or Intel do you have preference in GPU. with the way your question is worded you are going to get so many varying ideas and ways to do. and all it will do is confuse you..

edit sorry I came to this thread from first page of OCN and did not notice it was in the amd section sorry for my mistake....

You could go to this site and make your computer then let us give you recommendations on how to improve..

Like everyone else has stated, we need a little bit for information, try starting with an idea in what you want for each part

Do you want 8gbs or ram or 16gbs? then start thinking bout brand corsair, G-skill, mushkin

Do you want a liquid cpu cooler or a fan cpu cooler? you can get a good cpu liquid cooler for not much more than a fan cpu cooler if not just a little bit more but its worth it

For your gpu do you want nvidia or amd?

I second Macleod's suggestions, but I've found the 965 for $70 recently on Newegg and Superbiiz. I would personally throw in the FX-6300 into the CPU conversation as well, nearly as proficient as the 8320; lower TDP, lower cost. $950 is a very decent budget for what you have left to buy. If you're using this primarily for gaming, I would go for Win 7, and the 7870 can be had for a little over $200, with 3 nice games as part of the package. Look into some Linux distros as well if you don't game so much. What HDD do you already have? Perhaps get an identical one to RAID 0? If you have any leftover cash, strongly consider utilizing it for a SSD, even a small one for just caching, if that is all you can afford.

this will give an idea,,,

you could do little cheaper on the motherboard,,just try to get something with 8+2 power,,,helps with stability

also you could drop a 965x4 for 80$ in any am3+ board and pick up a 8350 or something later,,that'll save a few dollars
