Wow, it made a big difference for the center monitor!

Also, for those who don't know, you can find some calibrated icc profiles for popular monitors (and some not so popular) at http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm

won't be as good as calibrating your your own monitor with a calibration device like halesschimp's, but you should be able to find something better than what you're using now if you haven't played with calibration yet.

I agree.

It's an expensive tool and you don't want to toss it around to just anyone. It's a nice gesture, but just be smart about it.

I'd say 50 rep minimum and 1 year member for sure. I'd definitely look into trader rating and see if anyone has had issues with the person too.

I agree with the higher rep requirement. 35 is minumum even to sell, and you are talking about lending your expensive instrument. I would love to be able to use that on my monitors. For me it's just not worth the money buying one. Renting one would be awesome though. Great idea, and even if it doesn't work out thanks for the generous thought.

A lot of photography stores rent similar things to this this (usually more high end though and certainly not cheap to buy). I have one myself and loan it out to friends all the time and pass it around at school for people to calibrate their office PCs. It is a must for most multi-mon setups if the monitors are not all from the same group when the manufacturer made them.

What we do is pass the cd , authorization code, and the spyder. Install the spyder from the cd (no internet connection required with cd after first registration and authorization code is emailed to you). Then run the program and save the ICC profiles. Most uninstall the software then but it can be left to give out warnings when it should be re-calibrated (every couple months). I think mine has probably been connected to 80+ systems by now. Also be aware that it should usually be plugged in 24/7 because it monitors light levels and adjusts on the fly.

The TV kit comes with a dvd that you play on the TV. The spyder software tells you go to a certain test pattern and then tells you what settings to adjust on the TV. I highly recommend this add on in rooms with lots of light coming in. I also know that for eyefinity setups you have to leave eyefinity mode, do the calibrations, restart, and then go back to eyefinity. Just make sure that when you are calibrating that the order from left to right on the monitors is the same as the eyefiniity order. The ICC profiles are linked and loaded based on connection order not the actual monitor ID. The calibration notices will appear on the center monitor during startup in eyefinity but it is loading them to the correct monitor. I can't speak for nvidia surround though.

As for you loaning it out to members I'd go with 35 rep and 1 year of membership. You are kind of brave for doing this. I don't always know who has mine but I can usually find out with a phone call or two.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before since I haven't looked through all 7 pages of this thread, but I would suggest that you try and use the DispcalGUI calibration interface for the Argyll CMS open source drivers. It is basically an open source calibration utility that is completely compatible with the Spyder 4 sensor (as well as most other major sensors), but offers a LOT more options in terms of actual calibration quality and accuracy. You can run absurdly high quality calibrations that will take HOURS to do with it, or you can do lower quality (but still pretty good) ones that will take 10 minutes or so. I only have the Spyder 4 Pro which is missing some software features that I would like (like testing color/brightness consistency over the panel) and DispcalGUI seems like it can do most things. However, the Elite version of the Spyder 4 has better software, so it probably comes close in functionality. The one main issue with DispcalGUI is the learning curve; while the Spyder software pretty much holds your hand the whole time, the DIspcalGUI software is a bit more daunting, but very powerful once you figure it out (kind of like Speedfan).
