Which graphic card for 1440p? What do u think?

Hello
I have this computer:

Intel Core I7 920 2.66Ghz Box Socket 1366 (overclock to 3.8)
Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Socket 1366
Scythe Mugen 2 CPU Cooler
MSI GTX 570 OC Edition
Mushkin Essential DDR3 PC3-16000 6GB 3x2GB 9-10-9-24
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA2 MAESTRO
Cooler Master HAF 932
Corsair HX850 850W Modular

And I just bought a Crossover Q27, so I am playing at 1440p now and really loving it. I think this monitor is great value for the price. Not a single dead pixel.
But the thing is that even if I OC my GTX 570 (Core clock to 800 shader clock to 1800) i still get a bit stuck in 30 fps in Bioshock infinite or MEtro last light.
It is really playable but not that smooth. Not that I have a lot of cash to spend after buying the monitor, but I have like around 300 bucks that I could spend on a new card.
Do you guys think now is a good time to buy a new graphic card? I was thinking of waiting until winter so the new consoles come up and we see more graphic cards.
Also, I want to buy Nvidia, kind of used to it. So for less than $300 do u think there is anything that I can buy that will really improve my fps at 1440p?
Many thanks

You can sell the old card and have enough money for a decent new card or you could buy a second 580.

I know you say your pro NVIDIA and so am I but right now I would say if you are not going to get a 7xx card then sell the 580 and buy a 7950.

That is just my opinion.

Just because you favor one brand doesn't mean you have to blindly follow them smile.gif

Also the games bundled with the AMD package are worth some money on the bay so you can recoup some of your cash.

edit

also just checked but the 580 is selling for a pretty penny on the bay as well so I would do something smile.gif

Thanks for the post, the card is a 570, not a 580.
I thought of buying another 570, I think my motherboard accepts SLI rite? Would this be a good solution?

From first hand experience, I can say that I'm 100% satisfied with how my single 7950 at 1150Mhz runs my games at 1440p (Arma3&2, Hitman etc. with AAx low or disabled). If you're fine with disabling AAx then you're can get away with just about anything with quite a bit lesser card.

I wouldn't SLI the 570, partially due to limiting VRAM, but instead I'd sell that and perhaps look in to a GTX 770.

GTX 770 or Radeon 7950 should do a decent job on med/high details and no AA.

What do u mean with limiting VRAM? I was thinking of buying one via ebay.
I got a good price (130 euros) for this one
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 570

Can I SLI my MSI 570 GTX OC with this one? I think that my motherbopard accepts SLI rite?

1280mb vram isn't going to be enough for most modern games at 1440p.

Even if you do SLI, you'll still have the same amount of VRAM and you'll end up maxing out VRAM before GPU.

When this happens, the drivers will try to offload textures to your RAM over the PCI-E bus but since that's much slower it causes a drop in FPS

this is sort of true, if you are just getting the 1440p monitor and want to run it on you 570, it will be fine (gpu is more limiting than vram), but with 2 in sli the vram will be a problem. I hit more than 1.28 Gbdepending on the game.

So I wont see any FPS improvement at 1440p with two GTX 570?
I can get a second GTX 570 fopr 150 euros in Ebay. That is cheaper than buying a new card.
It wont help my performance to add another GTX 570? I actually also wanted to try the SLI set up, I have never tried it

You will see a big improvement going sli 570 the problem is that once you hit the vram limit your fps will plummet and you will be playing a slideshow.

Go for the 7950 even the 770 with its increased muscle isn't worth the premium over Tahiti when you take into account 3gb vs 2gb and the bus advantage. Plus since you only need one for now so you don't have to worry about cf issues, and if you ever do they might have them mostly fixed by then.
