@ OP: what sort of games do you play? Different games will favor different cards. As a very general recommendation, the 7970 all the way down to the 7770s are all awesome bang for the buck GPUs. However, certain games favor Nvidia do to the way the game was coded.

You might also do light video encoding in which case you need an nvidia card and not an AMD one.

Of course, you could be gaming at a higher resolution than 1920x1080p in which case you should grab the 7950 at minimum.

You need to give up a lot more information before anyone can truly name a specific card.

I think I'm going to buy the Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB for $175.89. What do you think? O ya I game at 1920x1080 and have a second monitor at 1440x900.
