FX8350 : Question about temps+apply thermal compound+air flow

Thread Starter
Hi everyone.

Im building my new rig, and I have some noob questions, so be patient please rolleyes.gif

First of all, my components:

+ AMD FX 8350@4000 stock
+ Asus Sabertooth R2
+ Scythe Katana 4 applied artic silver 5 @2000rpm max
+ ATI 4870 512MB
+ XFX 750W
+ Zalman Z11 Plus
+ Room temperature 20-25ºC

In the testing phase, my FX8350 is very hot in my opinion, 45ºC iddle. 10 minutes exploring BIOS options with all in auto and:

What do you think about this photos and the artic silver 5 apply?

Maybe a problem with air flow and cooler orientation? Graphic card and cooler is so close, but Katana was designed this way. I prefer testing before mounting all in the case.

Now Im installing win7 to deep testing, run a hwinfo and a prime test, but I cant expect low temps.

Im a little confusing, your help is appreciated.

Use a BB size dob in the middle of CPU. thumb.gif

Somebody spackled the CPU! I've done that before! Just a pea sized amount should suffice. It looks like you are also pulling heat into your cooler from your GPU. Try adding another fan in a push pull config parallel to your GPU.

It's totally worth it because it is so bad-ass.

Too much paste as others have noted.

The temps are usually higher in the bios because it runs the cpu at a higher level.

Scythe Katana 4? Barely adequate at stock clocks with good case air flow. Get at least a Noctua U12S or better yet a twin tower HSF.
