Quote:
Multi-platform releases this generation have been a mess, with the PS3's "unique" 7-core CPU, both console's 32 bit architecture, and other discrepancies in hardware making cross-platform ports a nightmare for developers (just look at any Bethesda game released on the PS3). This time around, both the Xbox One and the PS4 will be running on AMD graphics chips, and the company has unveiled its "Unified Gaming Strategy" to make PC ports of console games (and vice versa) a much smoother process.

Anything to avoid another Halo > Halo PC and GTA IV > GTA IV PC transition is fine by me.

Can't wait! Multicore gaming will be a norm for Console to PC ports. BD rigs and up might see themselves become some pretty good budget gaming CPU's in a year or two.

Looks like this is the year for AMD. Hopefully Intel and Nvidia will take notes and jump on this band wagon as well.

" Will we have to suffer under clumsier ports due to our choice in PC components? "
Yeah I would like to know.
It is though a big improvement. It means that we'll finaly have optimised games running on PC.

So does this mean that consoleports will run better on AMD gpus or will the difference between Nvidia & AMD cards be unnoticeable?

That is exactly what it means. They said it in the computex video also.

not sure how really considering the hardware is equally different as well as the API's. For instance, how would creating a game around a 7850/7870 spec in any ways benefit a CFX 7950 or hurt a SLI 670 setup?

Also, in 2-3 years, how would any of this be relevant?

Your answer in bold, APUs will be around for years to come.
