[TE] AMD Announces Unified Gaming Strategy - Page 4

Now if only AMD would put more resources towards catching up to Intel node and performance-wise. At this rate in a couple of years the only people who'll be buying new AMD CPU's will be retro computing nuts. (If AMD hasn't declared bankrupcy by then.)

"At this rate"? You do realize that AMD is making huge improvements, right? That their performance on the enthusiast desktop level is catching up to Intel? That they blow Intel away in mobile. That they are in all 3 next generation systems. You know these things, right?

Going back to the enthusiast line, the price/performance of AMD is untouchable by Intel. But that is just beating a dead horse....

AMD has made huge strides in recovery, and is on a rocket ship right now towards the top.

There's no difference between an Apple fanatic and an Intel one. AMD's CPU's aren't nearly as bad as some make them out to be and shine in their own area's, as do Intel's. To claim that Intel make the best is just as subjective as saying Apple make the best phones so you made the same mistake you accuse Apple fanboys of.

Huge improvements in number of PCI lanes? Power efficiency? Smaller nodes? Including PCI-E 3.0 support on the chipsets?

Oh, right.
Though the one good thing they have going are the APU's. Which are basically, in principle, sort of like a beefier version of the SOC-type stuff you'd find in Smartphones. Great for the farmville and angry birds crowd. Oh well, I guess cannibalizing the low end of their GPU market is an achievement.

So basically, in a metaphor, AMD is a marathon runner that managed to up their running speed a bit, and Intel is a Bullet train hurtling across the countryside on a parallel course to them. Yes, theoretically they are "catching up", but this is sort of the same thing as saying "air is heavy" compared to vacuum. It's besides the point.

From what I know, AMD wins in graphics in terms of mobile, but Intel blows them away in processing power. I will try to find further research on this though.

You can never beat that dead horse enough. I'm proof. Price/performance, and MOAR PCI-E SLOTS for the money are why I have this AM3+ system. No point in wasting another $200-300 on use which these parts are good enough for anyways, when I had more than a $K worth of other components left to buy.

Rambus: RDRAM will be the future! (DDR4 exists. A 2014 version of RDRAM doesn't exist)

Nividia: Fermi is awesome! (In terms of being a mini-oven, okay)

Intel: Itanium will be the dominate server architecture! (HP has to PAY Intel directly to continue supporting Itanium)

AMD: Bulldozer is here! (Wow AMD... Just wow....)

HP: By acquiring Palm, we will have a significant presence in the smartphone market! (Fail... Fail... FAIL...)

Charles Babbage: The Analytical Engine will revolutionize England. (Died before the machine even came close to completion)

North Korea: We are to be feared! (Uh huh... Isn't the average height of your regular soldiers is about 4 feet tall?)

given both xbone and ps4 will be using x86 CPUs from AMD maybe they would make it easy enough for us to just drop the game disc in and play the game

The software API would be different, since the PS4 and Xbox One use different OSes. In fact, the Xbox One has three different OSes...

LOL, that one is kinda nonsensical since the PS4 and Xbone are using Bulldozer derivatives in their consoles.

Asus produced an AM3+ socket board that had PCI-E 3.0 on it, which wasn't actually necessary. Anyone that has half followed system performance discussions knows that 2.0 v 3.0 translates into nothing substantial or worth even mentioning. You see frame rate differences between 0 and ~3 FPS, which is exactly the reason games aren't Benchmarked via 2.0 and 3.0 comparisons, because it doesn't make a difference.

Oh Yes, enthusiast gaming and your 'bullet train', right. The 8350 falls within about 10% of the 3770K and is not even 2/3 the cost of the 3770K. Although you aren't going to see performance at the enthusiast level running a GTS 450. Your crippled system aside, you could firmly plant someone in front of a system running the 3770K and the 8350, all other components being equal, and they couldn't tell you which was which. The performance levels are too close, and both provide more than enough power to game, when installed with other proper hardware.

Mobile; you keep chugging away on mobile platforms, and I would recommend you do a lot more research on hardware than just the mobile segment.

I am talking about consoles, the next generation systems that have been plastered all over tech news for the last few months. The Wii U, already released, PS4, and Xbox One....if you have followed anything about computer hardware within the last several months you would know what I am talking about. Though I don't expect you have, based off your previous statements.

Actually they're using Jaguar.

Bulldozer was even skipped over for the regular laptop/desktop APUs. Piledriver should've been BD.
