asus maximus V formula OR z87 msi gaming gd65 ? - Page 3

It has to be red-black.
Prefer z87 but will settle for z77 if the price / performance is way better.

I'd like to do some overclocking just because I can, but the board will be mainly used for gaming and movie / photo editing.

I won't be buying a soundcard, so a good onboard sound option will be nice, but don't prioritize it.

You say you want to edit so you probaly also want 16gb of ram... This MSI Z87-GD65 or this Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H would I get.
There are also the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO or ASUS MAXIMUS VI GENE (m-atx)

The asus boards, should have some good onboard audio, while the Gigabyte got the Realtek ALC892 codec, which is okay, but not the best. The MSI got the Sound Blaster Cinema, which I don'y know anything about.

They can all overclock, but may I ask. Why red?

Edit: They are all kinda the same price, but I would say take the one you prefer the look of smile.gif

LOL still spoilt for choice eh? :0
EVGA are red/black too just to confuse matters.

The dragon looks great for anyone on that colour scheme, and the boards have been getting great reviews. In Fact I think the 65 was best mobo of computex.

Hey there! Just to throw in my 2 cents I would like to just say that after 2 generations with the GD65 I am definitely convinced that it is a solid mother board for gaming and overclocking. I just upgraded in December and i have been quite happy. I havent found any funny quirks in the mobo and the UEFI bios is pretty biggrin.gif

I havent looked into costs but i know the gd65 is usually around $160-180 but those asus maximus's can get spendy quick.. The only reason ive seen to go with the maximus is if you plan to tri sli/crossfire in which case.. You have money to burn lol.

Anyways I think you would be happy with either choice but i think the price to performance definitely lies with the msi but thats just me.. rolleyes.gif

Not sure whether Black and Yellow is Impressed or Dismayed by the ASUS, the top armour I am not the biggest fan of, but the back armour I like, although they are already pretty strong.

I LOVE the looks of the motherboard I posted, not a fan of the armour on that of the sabertooth z77 for example, but this one rocks.

My Gryphon has arrived (no armour with this one) board looks amazing, and there is a big booklet with 5 year warranty written on it.
That I like
