7970 and flickering

Thread Starter
Ever since I built this PC I've been having random flickers. It lasts less than a second so it's hard to capture but it's basically like white with some lines, usually not even all over screen and it happens fast. It comes and goes, sometimes takes hours, sometimes few in a row and I thought oh well and haven't been trying to fix it until this happened:

Sound and everything in background worked and I couldn't see or get out from this.
I am running latest drivers and catalyst and also have latest MSI afterburner installed with fan curve set at 1c=1% after 20c, but should note it also happened on last 2 versions of drivers.

Now I'm thinking it's one of 2 things: graphics card is faulty or there's problem between it and monitor.

What I'm going to do is next:
wait for next flicker, disconnect DVI and connect card with HDMI to monitor and see if it happens again, and tomorrow test some console with monitor to see if it happens then.

Anyone had similar thing or advice what to do beside what I'm going to try?

Will update soon, just matter or waiting now.

Are you using a 120h or 144hz gaming monitor and were you trying to watch a flash video or embedded video?

It's this monitor BenQ G2400WD and it's set at 60Hz in settings.
I had youtube video paused at one tab and I was looking at this website http://195.56.77.56/n4/indexITALEGA.html?ita_65781 when it happened.

Next step after HDMI will be to use onboard card for a while, but no flicker yet, maybe this fixed it heh

Just happened with HDMI, next step onboard graphics. Also gonna play PS3 or 360 a bit to see if it's monitor. Really need to figure out if it';s card so I can replace it while it's under warranty...

It's most likely the 7970. Cards with GCN commonly have this problem. It's a problem with the transistors original design. Only way to stop the flickering is to RMA the card. No bios' fix for the problem.

Installed latest beta drivers in hope that fixes it (anything besides returning the card, I'd have to travel far, then leave it there and be without card for x days, then travel back for it because my country sucks uhh). Still on HDMI waiting for another flicker to try something else.

Thing is I can deal with them if they are as random, that thing shown in picture is what worries me, and that more bad stuff happen if card is bad already.

Currently on onboard graphics card since HDMI caused flickering too.
Flickering in itself isn't an issue, lasts 0.5 sec and happens rarely or randomly, but that thing from picture worried me and that flickering might be and underlining of bigger problem, so unless I can figure out what's causing it I'll RMA it but want it to be my last step.

I've got a feeling that it is as jrDrofXer14 card's problem and I'll have to return in but ffs, it's so annoying to do :\

So I underclocked my card from stock core 1050 memory 1375 to 800 925 and haven't had flicker in hours, will update if I get one but this seemed to fixed a problem. What should I do now? Don't want to play with underclocked card :| keep raising until where there are no flickers? But at same time does it mean card is still faulty?

I have experienced this flickering on my 7970 as well. It usually lasts less than a second, and I'd miss it if I blinked.

Typically occurs during browsing, towards the bottom of the screen. However, its never done it during gaming.

Also might be worth mentioning, i haven't seen it do the flickering since I water cooled it. Serious knocking on wood, but its almost been a week no flickering.
