Convince me to overclock. + General MoBo advice.

Going to probably upgrade my sig rig this weekend. It is all fairly new, but I bought the MB/CPU on an impulse.(AsRock Extreme3 / FX-4170)
I probably would have chosen intel if I had done the research at the time. I have never once OCed my current rig.

I'm looking at getting the 4770(K) and seeing is I am such a stubborn prude I'm leaning toward the non-K version. I probably don't even need an i7 for day to day stuff, but I do enjoy a performance computer, despite not being into "OCing".

-I appreciate haswell's reduced power consumption.
-I think air cooling is simple and elegant.
-I like quiet.

Also open to suggestions for a motherboard. I would like a full featured board with a USB 3.0 header and maybe decent onboard sound. I am just trying to find the line between a full featured MB vs getting into ones which are intended for OCing.

I have been satisfied with my Extreme3 board, missing USB 3.0 header aside, So maybe I just need the Extreme 4 for non overclocking duties.

I am also buying a Samsung 250 GB SSD, and probably a copy of OEM windows. If it starts to approach $1000 I might resort to an i5 worst case scenario, but I doubt it, I really want the i7.
It's hard to justify the cost when I already have a decent working machine, just trying to do it right this time. I may keep the FX 4170 for a 2nd/3rd computer or possibly sell it.

So I am just being open minded here, just figured I would give you a chance to rant on a square.

Derp.

I figured OCing and watercooling is pointless.

Silence speaks volumes.

Is increased CPU power for demanding tasks like streaming SC2 worth $100 to you? Then overclock.

If not, don't.

Is spending time fiddling with computer settings and finding the maximum clockspeed one of your favorite hobbies? Then overclock.

If not, don't.

Are you a professional, in the science, art, or architecture fields that requires maximum power to reduce computational downtime? Then overclock.

If not, don't.

Edit: Did you buy an AMD processor then realize you wanted per-core performance competitive with Intel offerings? Then overclock.

I did buy the AMD without realizing that a CPU with better single threaded performance would have benefited me more. ex. Trimble (Google) Sketchup, some gaming.

My 4170 is 125watts, and not really any faster then my older dual core Athlon. I know it is in some ways, but it was not an overly satisfying upgrade for the money. Alright combo for the money if you did not already have a computer.
The 4770 is 84watts or 65watts for the 4770S <-these two seem much more efficient, something more suitable for the next 2-3 years.

I could always toss a 8350 in my current MoBo, but then I would not have the social acceptance I so desperately need. Not to mention the added hydro consumption, I would much rather burn those watts in a tube amplifier.

This is my daily driver so I guess I won't OC it, reliability is number one for me, I don't want to come home from work and deal with blue screens, crashes etc.
On the other hand now I do have the AMD to OC if I feel like being a stooge, which does happen from time to time.

Thanks for your input.
