Budget Build Suggestions (Work PC)

post #1 of 5

Tis that time to make some a couple more PCs for work. Last time I went with FX-4100s, largely cause Microcenter had a nice combo deal with a motherboard that served the needs. This time around APUs seem to be the new cool thing on the block.

Thinking for ~$120 I can get an A6 5400k + basic A75 motherboard that has whats needed.
The cost of the rest of the components doesnt matter so much as they will work with any cpu/mobo configuration.

Thoughts, suggestions, perhaps better alternatives?

Motherboard reqs:
* Sata III (6gB/s)
* USB 3 for front panel
* DVI (HDMI is nice but far from needed)

Couple notes on whats needed: Very basic setup that will run the browser, outlook, and youtube smoothly in windows 7 ~ basically just about anything lol. More performance within a similar price range is nice simply for longevity (hence A6 over A4). Was looking at Microcenter sadly the cheap motherboard bundle for the FX-6100 lacks Sata III & Usb 3.

Finding a cheap A75 with USB 3.0 might be tricky. Have you considered getting a PCI adaptor card?

Not worried about which particular motherboard to use, moreso looking if that is a decent combo or if there might be better combos at that price range (FX4100/intel/etc)

Actually, USB3 & SATA-III is standard for A75 which is why I chose A75 over A55
