I''m for my national security, but you don't get to bless me with privacy, take some of it back, and expect me to be ok with that.
Edit: I would love a political section, because about politics is ill and I learn about a lot of other stuff I didn't before, but there's several times on OCN where people would get caught up in their feelings and start insulting the other person on topics less severe than politics
, just for having a different opinion.
They already do that pretty regularly in the CPU and GPU sections. I don't see how this is different.
To your comment. Up until about 15 years ago things that went bump in the night didn't have the potential to wipe out the species, now they do, I think that changes the game.

No, in fact, I vehemently opposed this kind of surveillance up until the late 90s. Only then did I change my mind when I (on my own) did the digging to understand the potential for an individual or very small group to end us. I have an issue with that. I don't mind being killed in a terrorist attack if we can have more privacy, not one bit! What I do mind is the entire SPECIES being wiped out in one.

Until the 1990s yes. Early 1990s they started using massive super computers to start doing the mining. Mostly of phone calls but they also data mined other "records" Before then they would have guys in rooms bigger than Walmart super centers sifting and reading through all sorts of stuff. Computers have sped up the process. You think mail really took 3 weeks to get from NYC to LA in 1970? It gets there in 5 or less now and nothing has changed about the speed of the delivery process.

Why should the US be allowed to collect all my data i have on any of these services.
I already expect the Russians and Chinese to be collecting this Data.. Ive KNOWN the Russians were doing it since I was very young. The Chinese are late to the table but they've been doing the same thing since they had the technological capability.
