I don't actually. Although that may be a logical possibility, you cannot ignore other potential outcomes.

For example, the order of progression has become skewed:

Sandy -> Sandy-E -> Ivy -> Haswell -> Ivy-E -> ?

The extended gap between the 2011 CPUs could mean that maybe Intel has been working on something unforeseen by even the most astute. My point is that nothing is certain.

Look at the 3820 vs the 3770K. The 3770K is faster then the 3820 in everything. The 4820 is based on ivy bridge. The 4770K is haswell. Haswell is faster then Ivy bridge. See where im going?

Everything? Not quite. Faster in most things, notably games.. and that's probably what counts to most...

There are rumours Ivy-e will be skipped and haswell-e will come in 2013/2014.
In 2014 we will get haswell refresh and in 2015 we will likely get consumer ddr4 compatible sockets with skylake and/or extreme socket (skylake-e or whatever it will be).
haswell-e was supposed to be ddr4 compatible and thus coming in 2014. It is also very possible they prefer to postpone ddr4 for both consumer & enthusiast to 2014/2015.
The old road map was Ivy-e this year, broadwell in 2014 but this isn't the case anymore. If you try to fit ivy-e in the new roadmap you will end having it less than a year which is unlikely to happen.
I am whiling to bet skylake will be soldered on the motherboard.

Anyway, I am not sure intel knows exactly what they want to do. They seem to have abandoned their roadmap and now focus into ultrabook and mobile market. They will still offer desktop CPU but don't expect to have what we used to have. If you want the best of the world (overclock, IHS soldered, etc.) you will have to pay more for the -E version.

Haswell isn't an upgrade if you have sandy. You will get better bench score but that's pretty much all you will get.

I'm not going to argue with you guys all day. If you want to assume the 4820K will be faster go ahead but be ready to be disappointed. In the end haswell will still be king of the quad cores.

Those rumours are very old and they are dead now. Everything indicates that Ivy Bridge-E will get released in september this year.

You also have to remember....everybody is getting crap overclocks with Haswell....I lost count on how many people running 4.5ghz or less....3820 alone is a very capable 4.8ghz. Once it gets the Ivy treatment the 4820k should pull away from the Haswell in clock speed alone.

Ivy-E will be slower, core for core, clock for clock, than Haswell. It's an older microarchitecture, the same that is in Ivy now.

There is no way around this, this is not speculation. Just as SB-E cores are SB cores, Ivy-E cores will be Ivy cores.

Not all will 3820s do 4.8GHz. Many, probably the majority, do not.

Ivy-E may or may not OC better than Haswell, but if it doesn't clock 5-10% higher, it won't be faster, core for core.

This doesn't make any sense at all. Type of transistors should have utterly no bearing on the TIM used on the other side of the die.

130W TDP cpus will have indium solder or equivalent high thermal conductivity tim to meet specs.
