Disappointed with Haswell, When is Ivy Bridge E coming out? - Page 4

This is all speculation at this point.

Haswell has not been impressive and most if not all 6 cores users do not want to downgrade to a quad core chip.

The 4820K should be impressive. On a clock to clock basis, the 4770K will be 5 - 9% faster. Overclocking appears to favor Ivy so these chips should be dead even.

Whatever one prefers here, you cannot go wrong IMO.

There is no way around this, this is not speculation. Just as SB-E cores are SB cores, Ivy-E cores will be Ivy cores.
Not all will 3820s do 4.8GHz. Many, probably the majority, do not.

Ivy-E may or may not OC better than Haswell, but if it doesn't clock 5-10% higher, it won't be faster, core for core.
This doesn't make any sense at all. Type of transistors should have utterly no bearing on the TIM used on the other side of the die.

I already knew this....going from sandy to SBE, ivy to SBE, haswell to HWE etc

Also we already know Haswell is slower...my boy can't even get 4.4ghz...and when I go on forums, I see people consistently at or below 4.5ghz. If an 4820k can do 4.8ghz then it should take the cake while retaining full 16x PCI-E and uber memory bandwidth.

What cooling? What board? Have him post in the haswell owners thread and we'll help him

So is the 3820.

I'm saying that with core counts likely being the same (for consumer parts) as SB-E, Ivy-E doesn't offer a whole lot over current parts, and may not be worth the extra wait/cost.

I already know not to expect much out of Ivy-E....I expect similar results when Intel transitioned from Sandy to Ivy

As for waiting...well its only 3 months from now....why buy old 2 year old tech, when you can get the newer one at very similar prices? I doubt Intel is gonna jack up the price crazy for the same 4 core 8 thread and 6 core 12 thread chips.

You can already get the Ivy-ep xeons for like 2 months now but you want a overclockable platform as a gamer.
