i want to do sli...

Thread Starter
hi all. i recently purchased a 660gtx and i really like it but i would like to do SLI and i had a bunch of questions. i have owned 2 sli boards but have never tried it till now

1. will my components in my sig cause any trouble? especially the power supply (which i will be able to afford if i need a new one)

2. is microstutter a problem now a days?

3. could i set one card to be a physx card for certain games?

4. what about cooling? my case can support up to 5 more fans.

thank you all.

Could you post your sig please smile.gif

Edit:

Nope, components are fine, should be able to SLI with 600w.

Microstutter is very much reduced.

Don't use a dedicated physx card. A CPU can process physx better.

The only thing you make want to do is make sure that one card does not suffocate the other.

heres his rig

edit:
1. ill let someone else chime in on the PSU question.

2. microstutter is a problem thats pretty subjective. but having experienced amd crossfire and nvidia in sli, i found it more prevalent in amd. havent seen as many complaints for nvidia SLI and havent experienced stuttering as much.

3. no need for dedicated physx. you can just assign physx to your second card while in sli. there are just a few games anyway that utilize it. youll still get more fps out of sli with physx on second card vs single card w/ dedicated physx

4. my thought here is not the number of fans you have but the flow you have with it through your case, in the front, out the top/back. if your temps are fine, dont bother adding more fans. if you find it a little toasty, then maybe add some in the side.

also, single card is better than 2 cards and addresses your micro stutter worries. so maybe consider selling and getting a single more powerful card?

A good 600watt psu should have no problem running your 660's in sli....
2. is microstutter a problem now a days?
When i had my 670's i did experience microshutter, but very minimal....
3. could i set one card to be a physx card for certain games?
Yes you can, just disable sli and set the other card as a physx....
4. what about cooling? my case can support up to 5 more fans.
Cooling shouldnt be a problem, however if your cards are reference models its better for cooling inside your case, because the cards will blow the hot air out the back of your pc....

thank you all for the fast reponses.

i only have 1 fan here so i think a second could do alot of good.

my card isn't a reference model but it does do the thing blowing hot air out the back.
