Complex *ish* AM3+/Should I buy an AMD 8350 question...

Thread Starter
I'm building a new system in about 2 months, purchasing at the end of this month. It's been over 5 years since my last build (Core 2 Duo E6600) and that is the computer I've been using up until this point.
I'm not a fanboy for either Amd or Intel, but the first PC I built back in ~2000 was an AMD, and again in 2003 was AMD. I've been on Intel ever since. I kind of want to "come home" but I have concerns. The most intensive thing this PC will be doing is gaming so that performance is important to me. Most games tend to be GPU bound, leaving AMD even with Intel, but in CPU bound games, AMD is hurt usually about 20fps behind the top. But that is always on 4xMSAA, and usually the difference between 80fps and 100fps.

I'm worried slightly about upgrade path. Is AM3+ going to be viable next year? I know the FX-9000 is rolling out sometime later this year, but will newer top level AMD chips continue to be on AM3+?

My budget is up there, I'm trying not to spend more the $2000, but I have a monitor factored into that, so the box it self will be in the $1500 range. Basically has anyone built an AMD system and thought later on they should have went Intel. Or is the difference in performance for gaming not even worth worrying about.

I know based on being posted in the AMD forum, subjectivity may be hard to come by, but at this price bracket, is AMD still a choice you guys would make? Anyone come from this similar position suffering buyers remorse?

Thanks for your time gents.

So far it seems that AM3+ is still on track to receiving Piledriver and Steamroller in the future.

If I was going with a totally new build then I would most likely aim for the Intel camp but if I'm doing it on a piece by piece basis then I would stick with AMD and their good track record of backward compatibility. That's just me though since I feel processing power is at a point where I don't feel the need to upgrade as often.
