i7-3930k vs i7-4770k any bechmarks yet? - Page 2

Surprises me that the i5's are faster that the i7's in games. However, I had seen a similar benchmark when the IBs came out.

Again, it shouldn't surprise you, if the game is using up to 4 cores, a 4770k and a 4570k should perform about the same as long as they are clocked at the same speed.
HT will make no difference if the game/app isn't able to utilize it.

here.. compare to the lower resolutions

even a 2500k is still top notch when oced to 4.5+ and can easily fire
up one titan.. many dudes do not recognize this and sell their CPUs
and believe they will get ultra performance with the switch.. rolleyes.gif

Yes, I know about the usage but they're not performing about the same. the i5 is faster in both generations.

Yeah, I was only looking at the BF3 one.

Thanks for providing the benchmarks was curious aswell I've got the 3930k and am surprised in black ops 2 the 6 core has ever so slight performance over 4770k.

IMO every jump from old tow newgen hardware should be like from i7-9xxx to Sandy bridge at least.
As well as the technical features, also more (efficient) cache could be doable.

Besides this, hardware companies benefit by changing sockets and cpu´s because many people
do buy their stuff careless and think they do a upgrade.

In my eyes, Sandy Bridge = Ivy Bridge = Haswell with minor differences. Its like rebranding the same
car several times to sell it better. This is very poor.

Incorrect. The problem is that BF3 IS trying to use all 8T. Four threads are being used by four cores to start, and then four more threads are trying to use the leftover resources which aren't enough, which leads to the slowdown and negative HT scaling. Remember that both i5 and i7 models have the exact same IPC.

In other words, if they tested the 3970x with 6C/6T (no HT) it would be on top of the i5-4670K and a i7-4770K (4T/4C) would be equal.

how much advancement do you expect in only 3 generations? Cars generally don't change model gens every 3 years. People keep wanting intel to make some kind of amazing improvement on an already pretty amazing product. Can't expect huge gains every single release like p4 to c2d or to nehelam.
