AMD Athlon X4 750K

Thread Starter
Hello out there! I just placed an order to round out my super budget build, and would like to start an owners thread for these CPU's. I just bought an Athlon x4 750k, a NZXT tempest 210 massive mesh tower to replace my aging rosewill tower, a MSI FM2 A85XA-G65 mobo, 2GB Powercolor Radeon 7850, 1TB WD Blue SATA 3 HD, 64GB SSD for games, Silverstone Strider 500W PSU, CM 212 Evo, 24x DVD drive, TP Link USB wireless adapter, and 16gb of Corsair 1866mhz DDR3 Vengeance ram. I know the Athlon isn't a powerhouse, but it is respectable in performance, and in tests was able to hold it's own with the Phenom X II 955 and FX-4100, which for a chip that lacks L3 cache, is pretty good. I want this to be a good enough computer to last till Kaveri, didn't want to spring for Richland once it released so close to Kaveri after all. So, without further ado, Owners unite! I will build it when everything arrives, which by the beginning of July it should, as I am stationed in Bahrain ATM.

That is a nice build. Should be able to get a nice clock on the 750k. I will be interested to see how far you can overclock and how it performs aswell so keep updating smile.gif

Most of my parts are in.. Started building the case, and installed the 212's backplate. It will be a great looking build when done. The NZXT 210 tempest is an AMAZING deal for a larger mid tower case. Loads of room, 2 nice fans, USB 3.0, it is a good deal! Waiting on HDD, SSD, DVD, and CPU.. Next week!

Okay, so I think I made a tiny huge mistake...!!! I can't get a good OC on this CPU. I got it up to 4.8ghz on air with the CM 212 evo with the supplied TIM. Also with the MSI 85x board, you can OC Corsair vengeance 1600mhz ram like a dream to 1866mhz no sweat. Will try for 2133 tonight maybe. I dropped my everyday OC to 4.3, but at 1.4875 volts to the CPU, it will go stable to 4.8 with p-95. I just want it to last me some years so I downclocked a bit. Also my NB is OC'd to 2500 MHz stable. This is a screamer of a chip! Oh almost forgot, never exceeded 65 c at 4.8. At 4.3, 49 c under load and 37 at idle. I would HIGHLY recommend this setup to anyone not wanting to spend more than $650 on a really strong build.

you might want to stress the CPU even more then 3 hours minimal would be 6 to 8 hours for it to be completely stable with no errors

Didn't have time last night/ this am. Will do so soon though! It plays Arma 2 loaded with mods for hours on end though at 4.5. That is a notorious CPU intensive game. Honestly I believe that should warrant its own benchie test!

This is getting better and better! Corsair Vengeance to 2133MHz, 1.65 Volts!!! I think I will test it at this setting right now. NB to 2500, CPU at 4.5GHz, Volts at 1.45, Temps in Windows is 41c, it is a BEAST for a whopping $84 bucks! I think AMD finally may have a winner replacement for the 965 at a lower TDP! See, it's peeples like me that buy the lesser known and give it a whirl! biggrin.gif

Congratulations, that's pretty sweet for an $84 CPU. I've heard that the Trinity-based Athlons are good overclockers. thumb.gif
