Normally I'd say to go for an SSD, but the 64/80GB might be insufficient. Mind I started with a 40GB Intel x40-V in 2010 and I can say that an SSD is just amazing - everything is faster and all the rigs I've used with SSD have a snappiness unequaled by HDD-based rigs. Still, 80GB is a bit low because Win at start will only take some 15GB, after a short while it's going to bloat towards 20GB. Then you have the hibernate.sys file that equals the RAM, so 8GB. I disable pagefile, but some don't; if you keep it it's another couple GB. The second disadvantage of the small SSDs is their cost /GB - there are offers pretty fast SSDs like the 240GB Corsair Force3 @ 120-150$

My take would be to get a big fast SSD first and then when the budget allows to change the GPU for a 3GB 7950. It looks like newer games will take quite a bit of space due to better textures and GPU might soon benefit from much more VRAM due to the 8GB supported by the consoles, so a good plan might be to get a GPU with as much RAM as possible.

The ssd would ONLY be for the os. I'm patient enough with the games on my Seagate Barracuda.

My board is kind of weak, don't know if I can push it much farther.

Your board is fine, at least I think its good enough for overclocking on air.

Have you considered buying another 550TI and SLI it?

I have, but I was told microstutter is worse than cancer. It would only equal around a 7850's performance anyways. More heat, more tdp, less power. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

In that case, get a ssd and a new gpu.

I have a 60gb intel 330 ssd for os, it boots great (fast boots after bsod due to overclock), and it is still half empty.

When my windows 8 loads up, i can open apps right away, compared to the 10 second freeze on my other win8 in my sig.

i have a evga 550TI sc in my server and it is a beast.

the cpu you have is alright... i think it is your motherboard that is keeping you back

if you are on a tight budget then this is what you want.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/990FX%20Extreme3/

but if you can wait.... the new AMD cpu's are comming out soon and then get yourself a new gigabyte 990fx rev3.x board and then save for a bit and get the new 8core 5mhz cpu

then you will be laughing for the next few years

Sell your CPU and GPU, get an FX-6300 and the best GPU for your budget. You should be able to hit 4Ghz on that mobo with the FX and easily beat a 3.6-3.8 thuban in 90% of games.

Is 64gb enough for win7? I won't be putting many, (if any at all) games on it. Just after boot time, and taking load time off my drive with the games on it.

That motherboard is almost identical to mine, just with an extra slot for a gpu/sound card. I will most likely be going single card.
