And considering the gains from SB to Ivy almost equal out when you factor in OC potential and IPC, and that HW looks to be almost no improvement over Ivy, aside from power consumption, but at the same time lowering OC potential and increasing heat, I think AMD is even now in a pretty good spot.

It all depends on optimization tho, we can't really predict how the CPUs will handle the next gen games, I like where AMD is going they have a strong tactical position, they have cheaper hardware for almost the same performance, I'm not gonna be changing CPU unless the difference in performance huge, but might consider changing GPU.

People seem to forget that they do not code directly to hardware! They program through the API which in the case of the PC is predominantly DirectX and requires separate optimisations to directly coding to the GCN architecture itself.

Apart from that, the PS4 will not support DirectX and as such, AMD will see NO direct advantage over Nvidia or Intel. They may get access to driver optimisations early but I highly doubt it. As a developer you want to reach as broad audience as possible, just because a select few developers didn't give a toss about PC development doesn't mean the sole focus is on consoles. In fact recent times have shown that PC is becoming an ever more popular gaming platform and quite a financially successful one too.

If I were you, I would do some research on how consoles are coded for. If you are really convinced that they use an API, all your arguments are invalid.

Disclaimer: I'm not sure at this point if the xbone is going to use DX or not, but I have my doubts.

Actually consoles do use API's. The PS3 uses an special version of openGL while Xbox 360 uses a version of DX9. The thing is that with consoles you have low level access meaning you can circumvent some or all of the API. As I understand it most multi platform games (like thous made on the unreal engine 3) do use the API's on the consoles and its only really the exclusives (think uncharted) that go the extra mile and have the engine written to run "strait to metal".

Oh no frown.gif My ultrabook that is thinner than my phone wont be able to run next gen games, what ever will I do? Thunderbolt GFX box or maybe a DESKTOP TO GAME ON.

AMD, this was the dumbest, although correct thing you've said.

Next gen games will crush our computers for a year or 2 until new tech comes out, its always the way, the consoles dev code right to the hardware so there is no bull os' or anything to try and navigate through.

I can't wait until the next gen games out and an't run on APU's either, I will laugh, what person honestly thinks that they will run games like Watch Dogs on an IGP from Intel? What a joke.

AMD should've kept their mouth shut, this statement made them look so blind sided.

How about you make better desktop CPU's AMD?

I didn't say make CPU's better than Intel's.

I just said make better desktop cpu's (aka higher end consumer market cpu's)

Nothing about intel vs amd for the desktop cpu was mentioned in my post.

Please re read what I wrote.

Yeah. I'm not sure what that AMD rep was trying to say. Was he pointing out that Intel's IGP for PC fails extra-hard compared to AMD's? I guess that's technically a win.

Personally I don't agree with AMD's arrogance on this (very un-amd like, they are obviously a bit sore from beatings). From my perspective one of the most important gaming platforms of the future will be Linux and APU's are a good at the moment for a low cost platform (by not paying $$ for a MS OS). Console game will mostly be OpenGL so ports that come out on steam will in theory be compatible with Linux over time. AMD has neglected Linux as a platform, their official driver is terrible still in 2013, not just 3D but 2D aswell they seem to forget that xboxone is microsoft and that microsoft want to world dominate the console and pc games market.. which means edging steam as a platform into uncomfortable territory.
When people do move to Linux I can tell you right now that the Intel haswel APU urinates on an a10-5800k from a large height, its shouldn't but it does. In fact the Intel Linux driver is very good indeed and it plays nicer than dedicated cards!

I forgot to mention Nvidia, they also have a great (albeit closed) Linux Driver. I dont see any reason for AMD to be smug here
