Looking for a GPU that will match a i3 530.

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a video card that will be "balanced" with an i3 530 (1156) CPU. I got someone that would like to play BF4 at some kind of reasonable about. He has a limited budget so I think a total upgrade will not work out for him.

What do you all think?

Hey plays at 1080 and a complete mix of games. He also has a beefy PSU to back it up. I'm just not sure how much of a bottleneck the 530 will be. I never used a first gen i3 before.

Something in the 6850/6870/7750/7770 area would be perfect for him. It will provide decent performance and the cpu shouldn't be a bottleneck at all. If you could overclock his cpu a little bit, this would definately make a bottleneck inexistant or at the very least very minor.

It can OC to 3.3 stock volts or 4Ghz with added voltage tongue.gif (see http://www.anandtech.com/show/2921/5)
It's roughly a Phenom II x2 565 BE (http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/118?vs=204 , http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i3_540_530/10.html) or Phenom II x4 when OCed to 4.4Ghz (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i3_540_530/12.html , http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2010/01/04/intel-core-i5-661-core-i3-530-cpu-review/9)

1st gen Core i3s and i5s Clarkdale weren't that strong vs Phenom II

GTX 650 ti boost 2gb or HD7850 2gb (if you can get it cheap ~$160) is probably a good fit
