Add on another memory kit?

I know this is quite possibly a very stupid question, but can I take the 4GB kit of Dominators I have now and add a 8GB kit like so and have a total of 12GB or RAM and it should work fine? I know I will have to adjust the frequencies and all that but I just need to make sure it will work properly.

It will work, but without matched sticks you won't get dual-channel. I would just get a 4x4 GB or 2x8GB kit and be done with it, or just get the Dominators you linked to, and use only those.

Would It be that big of a performance hit or whatever if they are not dual-channel? Right now just adding the the extra memory would solve my huge memory usage and not be to expensive.

Are you sure about that? Per this Intel article, I believe that he could have 6GB in each channel and have them running in dual-channel mode.

Populate according to the 5th example - "Dual-channel with four DIMMs"

Yes, it's possible, I'm doing it myself (4x4 GB). I misunderstood the OP; I thought he wanted to put 2x8GB with a single 4GB stick. 2x8 and 2x2 will work for dual channel.
