My computer has these weird pixels that appear. I don't know too much about pixel damage but I bought a used monitor after my computer dropped and I'm not sure if its the GFX card or the monitor.

Not sure which one to spend my $220 from tutoring on. Thanks in advance. I can help you out if you're struggling with Advanced Functions biggrin.gif

Did you open your PC after dropping it? Maybe if you are lucky the GPU might have just very very slightly gotten out of place. If not, i doubt there's a fix other than a new GPU.
Give us more info on which monitor and GPU you have right now so well help with where to spend your money thumb.gif

In case you are new to computer hardware GPU = Graphics card

Yeah like Ramzinho said it has to do with the GPU I had a similar problem with one video card in a desktop but it was too damage to be fix it.

Am I thinking wrong on this? but a screenshot shouldn't capture artifacts caused by a bad vcard or bad monitor, only software related.

Please help.. I've had 5 consecutive BSOD while trying to reply here.

First one was page_fault_in_nonpaged_area.. Second was APC_Index_Mismatch or something... and the third one was Please reset display driver and something about it timed out... This is really weird as these blue screens only happened today and I've been having the random pixel problem for over 3 months!

Computer specs:

Intel i7 Core 920 & 2.67 GHz
ATI Radeon HD 4870
Monitor: LG (bought from pawnshop)
OEM: Gateway

Not sure if this means anything but when I formatted recently, I tried downloading the BIOS for my computer from the internet and it turned out to be the wrong one.. However, it didn't cause any crashes or BSOD so I was able to install one that didn't cause any errors during startup.

1- Reformat.

2- Install graphic drivers.

If this doesn't solve the problem, then it's hardware related (GPU).

It's not a screen problem ; the screenshot wouldn't capture any screen issues.

Driver just crashed yet recovered successfully.

I find it really ironic how for the past 3 months this has never happened (BSOD and driver crashes) yet 30 minutes after I post for help it does.

Not sure if I installed the wrong driver or the GPU is actually ****ed up.. It says the Application Dwm.exe crashed.

Could be a loose solder on the GPU, these things happen. Especially for such an old laptop.

Two options to diagnose:
Try running in safemode
Reformat, reinstall drivers.
