Is there anything wrong in PC gaming on TVs?

Why don't more people PC game on their HD plasma TVs? Is there something wrong with that, like can it damage your PC or something?

This morning my brother wanted to watch a cricket game from ESPN on the big screen so I decided to use my PS3 HD Cabel and hook my PC up so he can watch it. Started playing some BF3 before the game starts and man I was impressed. My monitor is 1600x900, but the TV is 42inch and runs at 1920 x 1080. My it's the sweetest graphics I've seen in my life and I'm just running an i5 2500k and GTX 660. I need to do this more often. But why don't more people do it?

I recorded a quick test with fraps also while I was gaming on the TV:

Most people probably like to have a higher density of pixels when playing games, you get 1920x1080 over 42" but the other guy gets the same pixels in 24".

I play on a TV and I've been doing so for a while, I'm about to mount TV on the wall and buy a monitor, I've seen my friends play next to each other, and the monitors have nicer colors and it seems more clear to look at.

If you like playing on your TV there is nothing stopping you, its just a big monitor, it won't damage anything in your computer.

Nothing wrong with it. I play all my controller enabled games on my 32 inch tv that's right next to my computer.

You're not alone, games that don't require me to use KB and mouse are played on my plasma. That reminds me. I'm gonna go play tomb raider!

more people should do and will do when 4k TV's arrive the PPI on a 42" will be higher than most peoples desktop 24" 1080p monitors redface.gif

as an aside i like using steam big picture.. but the problem is you always need a keyboard and mouse for those damn intermediate settings menus / launchers .. kind of defeats the point.

EA should release an Origin Big Picture mode, ive never seen an intermediate menu on an EA game through origin and they usually keep things uniform (too uniform some might say) plus they have good big picture games like fifa, crysis, battlefield

This is specifically what Steam Big Picture is for. In fact, my brother has his desktop set up next to his TV; funny enough, he hardly even gets any good antenna reception; his TV is mostly there to combine with his computer (and he watches Netflix that way, etc) That said, there are disadvantages.

A) Some people can't easily move their desktop, or don't have an Ethernet connection in the right spot.
B) You more or less need all peripherals to be wireless, unless you want tripwires all over your living room.
C) Even with the right keyboard and mouse, often you need to be leaning forward against a coffee table to use them. It's really not the best posture.
D) There's one little annoying thing with FOV; when a monitor is right in front of you, it's more immersive to have a wider FOV, so that it feels more like a projection coming from your own eyeballs. When a TV is farther away, it feels more correct to have a thinner field of view. it usually influences the way console games are designed vs PC games.
E) Getting day-to-day work done on a TV-monitor isn't really all that easy. Windows has gotten better over the years at letting people enlarge fonts, but plenty of programs and even games are still not really coded for that, meaning you may have to squint to see some text.

Even with all those issues, it's definitely a cool experience. If you want to take things full-circle, try getting multiple controllers, and invite some friends over to play Trine 2, or Goldeneye on Project64.
