Will GTX 780SLI be enough?

Thread Starter
Hello I am planning on purchasing a 120Hz 1440p monitor.

I understand its overclocked from stock to reach 120Hz.

I was planning on getting 780 SLI and was wondering if its enough to run games in 120fps.

games like: dota 2, skyrim, LoL, GuildWars 2, etc.

Also I was wondering if there were any benchmarks for 1440p with NO AA for games like: Battlefield 3, crysis, metro, bioshock etc.

I want to play less taxing games in 120fps in 1440p so i can make full use of 120hz monitor.
I am also willing to take down some settings so that i can play more taxing games at 120fps in 1440p

will 780sli be enough?
how much settings will i need to take down for the higher graphic games?

p.s. i know that skyrim has alot of problems at 120fps/hz and ill probably just play that game on 60hz...

Well... The ability for your rig to run at 120 fps all the time depends greatly on the games. Some games - LoL, for example - are CPU heavy games. However, with LoL the graphics quality is low enough so that your rig will easily run it at 120 fps, unless you are using some old dual core proc or something.
All that to say, I think your proposed rig will slay most games at 120 fps. Have you ever gamed with that many frames? Dude... Games run with a liquid-like smoothness I have never seen any where else.

Guild Wars 2 specifically is far from being optimized well, and it doesn't seem to take much advantage of SLI. That being said, it runs pretty well on my SLIed 680s, but that's at 60FPS. 120+ might be asking too much from it, but it should still run well.

I actually have issues with GW2 and SLI....I have a post up about it right now smile.gif.

I get a soft reset from GW2 with my GTX 670s in SLI...only happened once, but it did happen, and no other game has done that to me. Therefore I agree that GW2 doesn't seem to do much with SLI....but while it's running I also get a solid 60FPS from SLI'd 670s...but 120fps consistent....probably not with 670s and if I was to guess when you get into areas with a lot of people or world events you're not going to be capping at 120fps even with 780s sli'd.

Just my 2 cents.

those games won't even push a single 780 that much. to get a smooth 120fps you need a high overclock on your cpu pref 5ghz on an i7 or i5
