[X-Bit Labs] Retail Versions of Intel Core i “Haswell” Are “Hotter and Slower” Than Expected – Report. - Page 10

This is why I still have my 2500k. It easily OC'd to 4.8GHz on air, and I could probably get 5GHz if I felt like pushing it. At this point, it does more than I need since I don't Crossfire cards or do video transcoding. For games, movies, Visio and general internet use, it's more than enough.

I'm thinking I will have it for a good while. thumb.gif

what really makes me sick about haswell is, they added all kinds of great new doodads to the z87 boards. mainly, the 6 SATA 6gbps ports...

i think z77 was supposed to have it, but with the lackluster follow up people wouldn't upgrade to haswell, and rightfully so....

mobile is a fad. biggrin.gif

So, is anyone able to get 5+ GHz out of haswell 24/7?

Glad I kept my 3960X awaiting IB-E this September. May be the last round of highly overclockable CPU's if Haswell-E sucks too?

I haven't seen anyone who's been able to get to a stable 4.6 GHz.

I'm waiting for Steamroller, personally. The rumors are that it's gonna have 1 FPU per core, instead of 2 cores per FPU, so that the individual core speed is going to be boosted significantly, when programs are not optimized for the special 2 core per FPU architecture.

The big change is the individual decoders. The single 256-bit FPU unit in Bulldozer and Piledriver was always capable of acting as two independent 128-bit FPU units, but was severely bottlenecked by the single decoder. That is not changing, there will still be the single 256-bit FPU with the capability of splitting to 2 128-bit units. 256-bit operations (AVX, etc) are faster than 128-bit operations, so it would be better to see AVX optimized software.

Haswell is really a big disappointment... not even 4.6 ghz stable yet?

Yeah but given the way AMD has been delaying product since Phenom II, by the time Steamroller SKUs are out in volume we may see the Haswell refresh show up just a little later. If AMD has truly changed its stripes and become more "predator" we'll see Kaveri and carefully binned FX steamroller clocked as high as it will go in ~100-125W TDP before the end of the year.
