NZXT Sentry 2 causing fan drone, Video

Thread Starter
Here's a video where I show a coolermaster R4 120mm fan hooked up directly, then hooked up to the NZXT Sentry, then back to direct again. You should have no trouble hearing the noticible drone it causes. I'm not really sure what to think of this, or what to do about it. Results were the same using both 3 pin, and 4 pin.
I want to be able to control fan speed, but if this is making the fans perform worse, meh.
I just put new $19 corsair fans in the case, too. Is this undervolting the fans or what? Can it cause damage?
Or is it just annoying?

This is a known problem with the Sentry 2. I bought one and it did the same thing so I returned it. You should do the same.

Contacted NZXT and they were going to RMA it for me even though It's 2-3 years old and no receipt. How long ago did you buy and return yours? Maybe they have the problem worked out by now.
I wonder which fan controllers WONT have this problem.

I bought it from a local electronics store 6 months to 1 year ago. I think that if they had fixed the problem they would have released the new one as a Rev 2.

There are lots of fan controllers that dont do this. I wanted a touchscreen fan controller to keep the front panel as clean as possible though. I kind of wish I would have tried a BitFenix Recon before I found the one Ive got. I bought and returned the Sentry 2 and an Aerocool Touch 1000. The Touch 1000 would lose its setting and the fans would jump up to full speed even though the controller said they were at 900 rpm. Had to reboot the computer to get them back to the speed I had the controller set to.

Which one do you have now?
the recon does look pretty. I could probably live without touchscreen if it meant better function.

This also looks good since it has 6 and my case has 6.

I got a Scythe Kazemaster Pro from Microcenter.

Its fine. Haven t had any issues with it, but its not a touchscreen. Microcenter got the BitFenix Recons about a month after I bought this one.

I was just looking at those I want one, and it seems discontinued now. Very pretty as well.

could this power per channel be the problem on the nzxt?

not sure if 10w is enough or not, but the lamptron has close to 30 and sycthe 12.

The buzzing issue with the Sentry 2 has something to do with how the controller meters voltage to the fan motor. I cant remember the exact reason but I remember researching it when my fans were making that horrendous racket. I remember reading something about how you could solder a capacitor somewhere on the PCB that would fix the issue.

In one of the reviews that i read, it states that there will be a beeping sound when he unplug a random fan. It is to alert us that there is an unresponsive fan, and it can be seen on the LED..

It's this articale, http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/787, there is a video in it which is the exact same situation as TS ... Though the website is having some problems now..
