Any and all sites that have a game forum all look the same. Just looking at some mainstream gaming sites like gametrailers, gamespot, ign, & kotaku; the forums & comments show the trend of the majority of console gamers being unhappy and skipping xb1; or else switching to (or sticking to) Playstation (PS4) is overwhelmingly consistent.

The fact of the matter is people are either informed gamers, or else they make their buying choices based on the recommendations of informed gamers. Either way the tide only moves in one direction.

That fact remains our opinions are still a minority. You don't know what the majority feels as the majority do not use forums. You know how many anti-apple people are on Overclock? You think that "sample size" affected sales in anyway? They didn't and still don't. Steve Jobs just sits on his fluffy cloud and laughs at us.

The majority have internet and money and could care less about Xbox One having DRM. The majority probably couldn't explain the concept of DRM. Most people only care about the games and as long as the games are good Xbox One is going to sell well.

This.

All a regular joe needs to hear is:
Quote:
Well due to the way the console works you can't sell games, but if you lose your disc, you can download the game directly on to your console and never have to use a disc again anyway. Plus you can log into your friends xbox and access your entire game library from there.

And regular Joe doesn't care about used game sales anymore, as long as the trade off is okay with him.

Just as PC gamers were happy to embrace "anti-consumer" death of the pc used market for a cheap game or two.

The moral of the story is, if the price is right, people will sell their lungs.

All MS needs to do is make sure people feel they are getting a good deal for selling their lungs i.e. cheap cigarettes.

Such is the nature of the consumer.

That's a false equivalence. Almost nobody overclocks an Apple, so there is less chance of an apple fan frequenting OCN.

If Apple did something that Apple users disliked, and they were actively participating in discussions about why they don't like it on most, if not all, apple specific forums; but they still bought it. Then you might have a point. But that's not the case.

We're talking about a video game console, that is not being received well or generally accepted in the mainstream video game community.

That has been so controversial it has generated anger & suspicion (& i don't say that derogatorily, but factually).

I realize it's easy to get disillusioned, dissuaded from your convictions, apathetic because of how easily it seems the general public can be swayed.

This is an easy mistake to make; because most people forget that they see the world through only one person's eyes, their own. So they tend to be self-centrist, applying more attention upon what they think is important and wondering why everybody else doesn't see what's clear to you. The issue is everybody else is the same, and are wondering of you why you don't see what is clear to them; only you aren't aware of it because your attention is focused on what you feel is important versus what they feel is important.

Because of this easy pitfall of generalization it's important to try to evaluate things for what they are individually (items, trends, social stigmas, public perceptions, etc..). Instead of assuming based on preconceived notions, scenarios or outcomes; as if everything is equivalent and can be categorized accurately, quickly & easily. Because those preconceived notions are often misinterpretations skewed by our own ego.

Apathy & exhaustion are two of the strongest tools in the PR industry. The strategy being to silence critics by either trivializing them (getting mob mentality on your side), or by demoralizing them leading them to either direct their attention elsewhere or else join the collective (if you cant beat them join them mentality). This story & thread are great examples. You need to remember that the job of PR is to distort reality, the art of PR is usually about manipulation not relations.

The only time PR relates with customers is when it feels the amount of effort it would take to change public perception would cost more than to change the product they're trying to spin.

Which does happen, many times. This is why it's important not to help propagate PR disinformation. If you want change you have to be persistent about it; because it's usually antithetical to the people who decided that what you don't like is a good thing for them.

Threads like this are ruining OCN, too much bickering. A piece of hardware is not something to be at each others throat over.

People are pre ordering so they can re sell them when everyone runs out of stock. I'm starting to get sick of this going on.

TLDR ( I suggest dumbing your logic down to my beer infused level)

My previous logic still stands.

Well, if XBox One broke pre-order records at $499, people should be preparing for those new records to be utterly shattered by the PS4 at $399.

Are all of those exclusive going to be 90+ on Metacrtic? That goes for Sony too.
No one knows if those games are going to be good. Maybe two of them are good, the others usually flop.

I remember buying Perfect Dark Zero at the 360 launch. COD2 was better and it was multiplatform. PDZ sucked big time.
