Except you talk about upgrading to a quad in your original post...in case you forgot...sounds like you have no idea what you want from this thread. If you just want to hear something about how great your 2140, well, you just aren't going to dude.
my 2140 sucks its old no l3 cache i hate it and please read i said in another year or so and if you read the original post i wanted to known whats a safe voltage for this chip. Please actually try next time.

Won't be trying to help you out any time soon lol Good luck with your 7870 + 2140 build then man...I really don't want to see any future post about why your 7850 isn't performing like it should. You will most likely have half the FPS, perhaps even less. And in a year, those Q9550's will not be getting any cheaper....all I was doing was showing you another option of spending your money that might make you more happy, but meh, what do I know...I'm only on 775 rig, like, number 50 or something.

Well, I usually set these chips to about 1.45V right off the hop, lower your multiplier as low as it can go, un-link the RAM, set FSB to 266 (1066) and start cranking up the FSB. Even with a crappy board, you could probably get 3.0GHz, or close anyway. 333MHz FSB with the 8x multiplier gets 2.6+GHz.. If you are unable to get the voltage you want, check into BSEL mods, they can work great for these chips, depending on the mobo used. Good luck! If you max out your chip and still have FSB headroom, it will give a bit of a boost to max that out as well. Though with the low 8x multi that is very unlikely unless you got one of the poorest clocking e2140 chips out there.

Max voltage is 1.5v, max temps are around 70c. Provided you have the proper cooling, you could get up to 3ghz, but that's a stretch. Most of those chips topped out at around 2.6ghz, so your mileage may vary.

Being that the E2140 isn't a very expensive chip, I wouldn't hold back on voltage, provided you have acceptable temps. Replacing it with a similar C2D won't run you very much money, in the event you don't upgrade anytime soon. As already stated, you will run into a bit of bottlenecking with a current gen GPU. If you can live with some bottlenecking, and can live with playing at low to medium detail settings, then you will be happy biggrin.gif.

Have fun!
