Games are madly jittery?

Thread Starter
Hey OCN,

All of my games are extremely jittery.

What I mean by this is, all of my games will run at a constant 60 fps for a few seconds, freeze entirely for half a second, then go smoothly for a few more seconds, then freeze again... And this loop will continue. It's really quite maddening and insane as this includes when I play games that I KNOW my system can handle very well.

The weird thing is, this isnt just for games either; this is also for just using the web; I could be typing very fast and then it'll suddenly stop, and then continue typing. Yes, as I'm typing this now, my computer cannot keep up with my typing. It is very weird.

My specs are as follows:

AMD A8-3520M
6620G + AMD 7450M CrossFireX
6 GB 1333 MHz RAM
Windows 7 Enterprise

The installation of Windows 7 is relatively new, and this problem didnt happen when it was newly installed. Also, the games are newly installed as well, so those arent the issue. I tried turning off CrossFire, and this made zero difference. I also tried reinstalling the drivers. No change.

Any suggestions?

I can take a video of the problem if absolutely needed.

I am running a 5400 RPM 2.5"

However, I use Auslogics Disk Defrag Pro ATLEAST once a week.

With a 5400 RPM HDD you're going to bottleneck to hell and back. I'd upgrade to at least a 7200 RPM with at least 16 MB cache.

Even typing on this forum is lagging for him. I'm no expert, but I don't think that is the cause of his issue. I could be wrong though

Have you tried re installing windows?

Have you made sure all your drivers and firmware are up to date?

Have you tried a registry cleaner and defragger such as CCleaner and Glary Utilities?

Do you have any programs running in the background such as an anti virus program that are hogging system resources?

Have you done a thorough virus/malware scan?

Depending upon the cache size what programs auto start etc. the 5400 RPM drives can be pushed to the limit easily. When I switched to a 7200 RPM I decided I'd never go back. But I would also try an AV scan. What changes were made when this started happening if any?

- This is a new installation of Windows. Only a month old. It was working 100% fine until about a few days ago.

- Yes, reinstalled quite a few times.

- Yes.

- Most certainly no background services that are using too much resources.

- Yes, I've done malware and virus scans.

The HDD is most certainly not the problem. No offense, but it REALLY isnt.

This problem is new; a few days ago everything was working perfectly fine. I guarantee that absolutely nothing changed since a few days ago except maybe an installation of a game or two; but those were just reinstallations, they were fine before.
