Windows XP Reinstallation question

Thread Starter
Today I get home and try to log into Windows XP Home Edition, I type in my password, it begins opening my account, displays my wallpaper, and then automatically logs itself out. I've never encountered a problem like this. Can anyone help me with either a fix for this, or a way to reinstall windows xp without being on an account.

How do I go about getting into safe mode? It never gives me the option, it boots into the windows start screen as if nothing is wrong.

After your system goes through POST, immediately hit F8 (just keep tapping it for a while...) A menu should pop up where you can pick SAFE MODE among others.

After the POST screen, and before the Windows Loading Screen, press F8.

EDIT: Chozart is so fast

BTW: You could also try Last Known Good Configuration. That is where I would start.

I had my XP installed across two drives, and now it's reinstalling on what appeared to be one drive (I just selected drive C Will there be a way to remove everything off both hard drives once XP is installed?

By across two drives do you mean RAID?

If so, you will most likely (99.998% sure) not be able to harvest old data.

Plus, a RAID setup would show up as 1 HDD in Windows setup (I just went through it myself :| )

Sounds like somethings wrong with userinit.exe either the registry or the file. Or something of the like.

Raid 0 shows as one volume so you should be fine as raid is a BIOS option and not an OS option in most cases you could try repair using your XP CD if the above option dont work. Besure not to do a fresh install!!!!!

I recommend you get a 3rd drive to backup your raid 0 array to avoid issues like this!
