Trying to build Gaming Tower. Help Needed!!!

Thread Starter
Hey everyone. I just created an account here and im hoping im in the write place to post this. I am trying to build my own tower so i guess Computer help would be the best place. But i just graduated high school and i got about 900$ so and i need a computer. I am a gamer so i thought i would look into building a gaming tower. I know i dont have alot of money to get the best parts but i basically want to build one that can withstand high graphics and not lag or be slow because they are pains. now i know speed depends on the servers i play on and internet like Call of Duty and stuff but i want a computer than can have fast reaction times and be very fast but can also play on the highest details. i downloaded an app called newegg to look at parts and this is what i came up with. I created this discussion so i could get opinions and if i was on the right track for what i wanted. Here are the specifics:

1. AMD FX- 8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz turbo) socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor ($199.99)

2. ASRock 970 EXTREME3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard ($84.99)

3. GIGABYTE GV-R787OC -2GD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card ($234.99)

4. G.Skill Sniper Gaming Serious 16GB (2x8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model f3-1866C10D- 16GSR($124.99)

5. Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (ssd) ($76.99)

6. ASUS 24x DVD Burner ($19.99)

7. LITE-ON Black 18x DVD-ROM ($17.99)

8. CORSAIR Hydro serious H50 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler ($59.99)

AND FINALLY!!!!!

9. RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case With 500W Power Supply (89.99)

Now i know this is alot and you probably wont want to help research it all but any help would be beyond appreciative. Im just starting to learn about computers and my friend helped me pick these parts out. I just wanted more opinions on if this is what i need. Im not sure if i need any other parts but if u see i do and could post some that would be awesome!! thank you so much in advance.

Couple things. Just a heads up, that is a small SSD, and that will be just enough space for the OS, not much more. That reminds me, make sure you have money to buy the OS. You also need an HDD, but you've probably got some leftover drives that you can use. The thing that jumps out at me the most is the case/PSU, as I haven't heard too much about Raidmax, and I wouldn't trust those kinds of power supplies. However, the reviews don't seem too bad, and if that's all you can spend, then you'll just have to go with it. The rest of the build looks really solid though, so that should be good.

Thank you for replying so quickly!

I will definitely take all that into consideration. The reason why i selected that case/PSU was because it was sort of a bundle. I was going to buy a seperate PSU but it was gonna cost about $50. This is the one i was going to get:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152028

I might just buy that one instead and then buy a regular case.
you don't want a raidmax case or raidmax power supply.

You want a quality case with plenty of room, and cooling fan configuration options. I would suggest the Cooler Master 620 II Advanced, or Corsair 300r, Fractal Design Arc Midi 2. You really get what you pay for with a case, that case you listed is pretty much not even in the same ballpark as these 3.

Just my 2 cents in agreement with the above post about the SSD. You should be able to get a 120 or 128GB drive for $100. Anything less than $1 per GB for SATA 3. Look for Mushkin on Newegg they usually have good value. Unless you really have a need for DVD drives, save the money on the DVD drives and use that to get the xtra SSD space. Most everything can be downloaded or installed with usb. You can always add the DVD's later.

64GB is fine if you disable hibernation, power saving, save states, etc. I always have 20gb free on mine but with the price having gone down so much buying only 64gb is not worth it.
That would work. And I do agree, that combo is a great deal, but the included PSU still kinda scares me.

a smilidon case is a quality case, its big, even has a fold out motherboard tray so i disagree with you own the case it has a 5 star review and is number1 in many things.

Ya i think im just going to throw out the RAIDMAX case/psu. i would rather spend the extra money getting something that wouuld be worth it than be garbage. But i will try to keep looking for another SSD. I do download alot of stuff for games and i do not do alot of cleaning so i will probably need something more than 64 GBs except i have no idea what is good and whats not. What do u all have in your computers for gamers?? I want to make sure i have LOTS of space.
I've got a Samsung 840 120GB SSD, and I got it for just under a hundred bucks. I think the next step up would be a Crucial M4 256GB SSD, but that usually goes for 200.
