Need help choosing a new cooler for my computer

Hello,

Well I've been out of the scene when it comes to cooling for the CPU. I have a Thermalright Silver Arrow (Push/Pull) which I brought like 2-3 years ago I believe and now I upgraded my system and getting a new case next week. I was wondering is their any better air coolers out nowadays that could beat my silver arrow? Also, I was thinking about getting a H100i I heard they are pretty good but so afraid of it leaking.

Any tips/help would be great, thanks so much!

This should answer your questions biggrin.gif

There are two mistakes in this chart. First, the stock h220's fans were running at a lower speed than they should have so the temperature results on that test should be better and the kraken x60 unit was defective. It should perform slightly better than the h110.

Your original Silver Arrow is still one of the best coolers. Put some high cfm fan on it and it's even better. Something like TY-143 or FHP141.. I like the TY-143 fans but Silver Arrow will accept 38mm thick fans so FHP141 will fit nicely
drBlahMan has FHP141on Silver Arrow

The reason reviews usually show AIO coolers being better than air is they are usually testing in a case without doing a very good job of airflow and keeping the hot exhaust from mixing with the cool intake air going into air coolers.. but of course the water cooler don't need any attention to airflow because the case keeps the hot exhaust air separate from cool intake air.

Here's an open air review of new Silver Arrow SB-E and H100

Temperature is delta.

H100 . . . . . . . . 41c 2500rpm. . . . . . . . 55dBA 2
SA SB-E . . . . . . 42c 1100rpm & 1300rpm 38dBA TY-150 & TY-141
SA SB-E Extreme 34c 2500rpm. . . . . . . . 56dBA 2x TY-143

The only reason the SA SB-E Extreme is 8c cooler than SA SB-E is fans. Of course the 2500rpm 130cfm TY-143 fans are louder than the TY-150 & TY-141 at speeds above 1300rpm but are same noise level below 1300rpm.. And even at 2500rpm they are only 1dBA louder than H100 is. You can't hear the difference between 55dBA and 56dBA. Human ear needs 2-3dBA change to hear a difference.

tw33k tested air against water here with 2-3c difference with same fans

HAHA I am still using my TRUE - its still an amazing air cooler.

I use xilence fans as i find them a lovely balance of noise and air throughput.

But it doesnt seem to me that there is a HUGE difference in temperatures from the TRUE to other things that makes me want to spend so much money.

To those of you who are are in this thread who know stuff, how is the TRUE matching up these days?

My opinion - if it isnt broken, dont fix it. unles syou NEED those extra few degrees then invest the csh into something more awesome like buying me a samsung 840 pro thumb.gif
