Need help overclocking Kingston HyperX 1600 KHX1600C9D3K4/16GX in my gaming rig - Page 2

Maybe I'll just look to swap out my 1600 for something more suited for gaming.

MY mother board is an ASUS F2A85-V PRO .....which can utilize DDR3-1066/1333/1600/1866/2133/2200/2250/2400

So maybe I'll look into (1866) or (2133). I'm not too sure if there would be any real advantage to going any higher.

I mainly play online MMO's (mostly TERA Online) so it might not make much of a difference anyway, as my DSL ping speeds are not the greatest to begin with.

Even though the other poster is using the same RAM,he's on a Phenom II vs your APU. You can't really compare as the Phenom will not run faster speeds than 1866 without major voltage. Also using four sticks of 4GB will limit your OC as it stresses the IMC more. You may need to increase the IMC voltage to overclock them. RAM can be varied in performance so no one really knows what your current set can do,although I will say I had a set of 1600 Kingston RAM that was crap for overclocking.Usually you can use CPUz to check the SPD ratings of your RAM,and it should show various SPD profiles, like this

This will give you an idea what timings to adjust for different speeds and voltages. Since you are already @ 1.65v,I would bump it up to 1.7v for RAM voltage and try higher speed first. AMD APU's do benefit from higher speeds.

If you really want the best performance than I would rec. dropping 8GB and getting a nice set of 2133/2400MHz,something like these

Thanks Redwoodz...

I follow what your saying. I only went with 16GB memory because I bought all 4 at a pretty good Price. I realize 16 is more than I need.

I suppose just 8GB would be enough, even after the system itself utilizes a portion of the memory. I was always a little unclear on that aspect of how much you really need for a gaming computer and how much just becomes a "waste".

I'm not on that computer at the moment, but seem to recall my gaming rig shows about 14GB , free when it's at idle.
