Thread Starter
I recently sold my 2 670s looking to run up to the GTX 770 due to the initial promise that it to, just like the 780, would have 3GB of Vram, which would really help with my Surround setup on ultra high settings dilemma. Then it came out and still had the 2GB of Vram and the higher amount of vram being the only reason I was going to upgrade. So butt hurt about the fact of getting burned, I looked into it and here in Canada, where I live, the 7970 Ghz Edition cards run for the same amount as the new 770's.

So... Should I grab 2 7970s or 2 770s to help achieve ultra settings(FC3, AC3, BF3, Hitman: Absolution, Metro 2033, Max Payne 3 etc.) on 5760*1080?

Both cards cost about the same and perform similarly. 770 is faster at stock. Both overclocked, flip a coin.

Personally, I'd go with the 7970 for the extra GB of vram and wider bus. Both will come handy in the long run.

for 5760x1080 - definitely 7970s. 2 gb 770s will choke at that resolution. At this point with all newer games i'd not recommend 2gb card for anything above 1080p/1200p

i would read This Article on 770 SLI and surround monitors

I would have said 7970Ghz, but i don't know how the X-fire frametime issues stack up in Surround (might be worse on both Nvidia and AMD). If you really want to enjoy Surround, i would recommend you save up and get 780 SLI...

Like said above I'd prefer a card with more memory bandwith and 1Gb more and for 5760x1080 Definitely 7970Ghz! biggrin.gif

Even two 7970s will not be enough for those top tier games to run max at that resolution. I'm not sure I would be buying a 2gb vram card for that res. Don't get me wrong, the 770 is the ideal 680 with its faster memory speed. The 770 should have been what Nv released as the 680 to begin with.

I can't speak for which combination would be better. I can however say that these combinations will help with Ultra @ 5760 with Battlefield 3 but not much chance with the others. Not with playable framerates anyway.

Far Cry 3 is a GPU sucking monster and even Hitman: Absolution taxes my cards consistently. Both my cards are currently clocked at 1050/1475 and playing Far Cry 3 on a combination of Medium & High Settings utilises 100% of BOTH cards to get playable (30+) frames.
