Pretty good video although it is a little vague. I watched it a few times, even before I had my CPU. But yeah, this explains why you can't use adaptive mode to test stability, it is always going to overshoot your voltage input and heat up the system.

On another note OCCT did find a fault in my 1.200V at 4.6 GHz. I have bumped it up to 1.220V and it is running tests overnight. 1.2 passed the heaviest Intel Burn Tests, but it failed while on manual. The strange thing is it passed last night on 1.2 adaptive, although it was drawing 1.266V. I posted the screenshot this morning. So I am still unsure if I should run it at 1.2 adaptive or 1.220V if it passes these tests.

The JJ thing is old by now. tongue.gif

Running with Unigence/3dMark won't really stress the CPU at all... Only Prime, Aida, Linpack etc will stress the cpu to any serious point. If it doesn't crash in Unigen it's like playing Crysis 3 and it doesn't crash. Some people want more than that.

You could then just run runme_xeon64.bat, but for some reason if you use the default setup and use all 8 threads to run linpack, the last two physical cores sit idle a lot of the time for some reason, performance (GFlops) is not nearly as high, and temps aren't as high either. So I recommend changing this line in runme_xeon64.bat:
Code:
linpack_xeon64.exe lininput_xeon64 > win_xeon64.txt
to
Code:
start /b /affinity 55 linpack_xeon64.exe lininput_xeon64 > win_xeon64.txt
Which will force linpack to the physical cores/threads and get you much better performance, and by far the highest temperatures I've seen out of any benchmark, IBT, Prime95 (all modes), and AIDA64 included.

Oh and you won't see any output in the console, the results are outputted to a file called win_xeon64.txt which you can periodically open in notepad if you wan't to check the progress. This has become my new standard for stability, if it passes the entire linpack run it can most likely pass everything else for a much longer period of time in my experience (Prime95, IBT, AIDA64, etc.), and is stable enough for me. But YMMV.
Hmm, got linpack to work this time, somehow.. Btw, with your script i only managed to stress 2 cores biggrin.gif Leaving the default script all my cores max out. Oh and the runme_xeon64.bat is the actual benchmark, yeah? Because it does generate little bit more heat than aida fpu, after 20 min it throttled frown.gif And how long should i stress test with it? To be stable for your standarts smile.gif And i would love to see if my chip bsod at 4.5ghz 1.22v (haswell bumbs to 1.23) I guess ill be testing 4.4 then.

It's because you have a 4670, which doesn't have virtual cores to turn off. Not sure why setting the affinity still wouldn't stress all four, but if the script disabled half the cores (in order to disable hyperthreading) then that's what you'll get.

Dropped to 4.4ghz, never really tested that much, but since linpack gives this i bet it needs more volts?
5000 5000 4 0.766 108.8630 1.237313e-001 1.725333e+008 FAIL
Every other line was fine.
EDIT: Now it seems like every fails. The cpu is giving false calculations? And should i use my pc when linpack is working? Im not doing much, google chrome, listening music.

Fail is bad, it means it had a small error that wasn't enough to cause a blue screen. You'll probably also see a WHEA error (maybe a lot) in the Event Viewer if you were to look. I would bump the voltage a notch. And you should probably dedicate the machine to Linpack while you are running it, instead of doing other stuff.
Bumped it up like 5 notches. Now it seems the failure rates have stopped. Though i hate it when it jumps the voltage even more than before. Like every 10 sec or less it changes to 1.188 to 1.2.
and how do i know when the test is done? and im probably not going to run the bench longer than 6 hours.
Edit: God damn, this is serious bench biggrin.gif After 10 min temps spiked 97c and it failed that attempt, i guess its because of the temps? Not going to go 4.3 probably frown.gif My settings for for my flawlesly. Though i do wanna know what voltage would get me rock solid at 4.3 smile.gif

Is a 10 minute stress test good enough? I think i'm pretty sure I've dialed in my CPU, but I'm not sure about the acceptable stress test procedure.

I have a 4770k, Batch L312Bxxx from Malaysia. It clocks like an absolute pig... 1.215V for 4.2 / 1.255 for 4.3 / 1.275 for 4.4 (that's including +0.015 offset in voltage).

I've passed using static most stress test (Linx/IBT/Prime95). But what I used most of all to dial in my OC was AIDA64 Stress FPU. That really drank the life out of my chip. At 1.24(+0.015) offset, CPU would throttle. Keep in mind I live in Greece in the middle of summer and ambient temps are ~35ish Celcius.

I'm still undecided if I want to delid or not (I was saving for over a year to buy this CPU). I might delid and use 44x at safe temps.

Hmm.. wow.. that doesnt sound like rock stable if it runs only 10 mins. it has catched some failures/miscalculations in about 10 mins though. Whats the ruitine for stability for you guys? ive done 5h aida cpu + fpu multiple times... because sometimes i cant let the pc run for longer periods of time thats why ive did that 5h test about 3 times. Did only 10 passes of ibt which didnt crash my system. Everybody is saying aida is complete bs and i agree you cant rely on aida alone since linpack failed some calculations.. but adding 5-10 notches of volts and the system should be stable for the main people. ofc for folding you need to test long periods of time.
btw doing 4.3ghz at 1.15 and linpack didnt show any issues. So i believe 4.5 would be somethibg like 1.24 but my 1.22-1.23 didnt fail me when im gaming and doing video edits and aida stress.. except the miscalculations i told about in linpack.
