Been puzzling over this for a 2 weeks now. Has anyone else had a cpu where if you run higher voltage than a certain amount - the cpu becomes more unstable..
For example: My 4770k was hard locking with 4.7 ghz at 1.264V running intel burn test inconsistently, sometimes after 10 runs, sometimes after 30 runs. I noted that my mobo asus MVIE would increase cpu volts to 1.28 or sometimes 1.296. Also I had noted that regardless of voltage, even at stock anything over 1.35 V wouldn't boot into windows whereas 1.264 would...
So I tested the theory that less volts would be better and brought the voltage of my 4.7 ghz OC down to 1.25 V. Now with IBT the mobo increases the voltage to 1.264 mostly and sometimes peaks at 1.280. With this new setting, my 4.7 ghz was stable with IBT and I was actually able to run 101 BCLK and get 4.75 ghz stable with IBT.
In terms of trouble shooting, I tried increasing VCCIN, since I`ve read that 0.4 - 0.5 V higher than vcore is required...but still no luck. For example I tried 1.9 and even 2.0 vccin for 1.3 vcore and it would still hardlock. Also I`m sure its not temp holding me back because I`ve delidded and running custom watercooling with temps peaking at 72-73C with IBT.
Thanks for any suggestions or ideas because I`m for sure quite puzzled....if its the nature of the beast then thats cool, but would like to hit 5 ghz for fun.
