ASUS Maximus V Formula Z77 on board SupremeFX sound solution vs Creative X-FI titanium, opinions ?!

Thread Starter
So i was thinking of selling my mobo and sound card and add just a little bit extra money for a used Maximus Z77 Formula the reason behind this is some sort of incompatibility issue with my mobo that makes it sometimes hang on code 99 at boot so i was gonna ditch it anyway, also the sound card is causing some spacing issues and getting in the way of having a nice looking tidy build inside the case no that i can't live with but i was thinking maybe i can hit 3 birds with one stone, first get rid of the incompatibility issues with my board, second jump on a higher end nicer board, third get rid of the extra discrete sound card and the issues it's causing all this while paying 50$ more, but my main concern is maybe the on-board sound that SupremeFX, could be a lot inferior to my Creative XF-I Titanium !

please advice, thanks !

I just moved from the Z77 to the Z87 for that reason alone to get away from a sound card, that usually has driver problems or compatibility etc.
So far with my GIGABYTE GA-G1.Sniper M5 MATX board the sound is very very clean specially with my new M-Audio BX8 D2 speakers. Reminds me of the Auzen X-FI Prelude 7.1 sound card days with there built in X-Fi Crystalizer which Gigabyte/Creative has the same setup. I find it so far A+ with no problems at all with the sound. My last couple of mobo's were Asus and I must say the new look with the Gigabyte boards are very nice with new all black PBC not brown, new all Durable Black Solid Caps, Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2200 Ethernet controller, A+ sound, other then the green/lime color scheme I just wish it was all black.
Oh yeah the new BIOS LAYOUT is just OUTSTANDING SETUP.. Just so clean and very very easy to navigate.

Not sure about the Asus ROG Z87 boards yet. But as of now they do not have a removable Op-AMPs like the Gigabyte Sniper series does..See picture below.. Also note the Op-AMPs is just for the main sound board not headphones on the Gigabyte Sniper.

As of now the only problem I am having the Sniper Z87 is the UBS 3.0 and my external Hard Drive keeps losing it's connection. I had to connect my HD to my board and it stopped.

The onboard audio on the new Gigabyte boards sounds pretty awful with the stock opamps. You'd have to disable everything that Creative turned on by default to get acceptable sound quality. Not to mention its headphone out was incredibly noisy, don't know if this is a defect or not since my board came pretty much broken everywhere (bad USB ports, HDD led, BSOD with 4 dimms installed) so I returned it. Bottom line is that if you're considering this one for good onboard audio don't set your expectations too high.
