ASUS P9X79 Pro with i7 3930k, won't post (CPU LED red light is on)

Hey everyone.

Completely frustrated over here. I have reached the limit of my troubleshooting abilities. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Hoping someone can help.

To summarize. I just purchased a new ASUS P9X79 Pro mobo. I can't get it to post. I had similar problems with the Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 mobo (two in a row didn't post), so I switched to this one hoping I could get some headway. Not the case. The CPU LED light is red and the mobo will not go past this point. I don't even think it's gotten so far as to test the RAM and GPU, it's stuck on the CPU.

Components:
i7 3930k
Kingston HyperX red 1600MHz (4 x 8GB)
Radeon HD 5450 graphics
Antec 750W gaming PSU
Antec Kuhler 620

Here's what I've already tried:
- Heatsink fan plugged into the CPU_fan outlet.... also completely unplugged it.... also plugged in to a chassis fan outlet... also plugged in to the chassis fan while having my stock case fan plugged to the CPU-fan
- After 2 hours I was able to get the BIOS updated to the latest version 4005 using the USB Flash BIOS feature (had to name is P9X79PRO.CAP, it didn't work with P9X79PRO.ROM like the manuals state)
- Pressing the Clear CMOS button.
- removing the battery for a minute and putting it back in
- one stick of RAM in the D1 dimm slot as recommended
- two sticks of ram in the D1 and the B1 dimm slots.

I've been troubleshooting for about 5-6 hours now.. so I can't remember what else i've tried. there may have been a few more things.

My components are confirmed to be in working order. I have a spare LGA 2011 mobo (Rampage IV Formula) fortunately.... and everything works flawlessly.. the PSU, the ram, the CPU, everything. I'm trying to upgrade to this new mobo so I can eventually increase my ram to 64GB, and b/c my RIVF has some PCI slots broken off by the previous user which makes me nervous.

After going thru 2 Gigabyte boards and now this ASUS mobo and none of them POSTing... i'm convinced there's a chance the mobo isn't DOA, but there is just something i'm missing... or i just don't know what the heck i'm doing.

I could definitely use some help and/or suggestions.

Anybody have any ideas? Again... my parts are confirmed to be working. Just not with this mobo. They work perfectly with my other board. I was confident the BIOS update would fix the issue... but that didn't work either.

I would check all the PSU connections, as that warning may be because the CPU power is incorrectly plugged in

Hey... yes, this was one of the first things I did. (So tired at this point, it's one of the things I tried but left out).

Power is connected, both the big connection and the small CPU connection are flush... the same way i had on my other mobo. they're in tight and secure. frown.gif

Things to check, remove the motherboard from the case, check the case make sure nothing is grounding it out, remove the cooler and cpu, check the pins make sure none are bent, make sure cooler is not touching or grounding out, check ram and pci slots to see if there clean, check cpu, motherboard power,

Model name
P9X79 DELUXE
P9X79 PRO
P9X79
SABERTOOTH X79
Rampage IV Extreme
Rampage IV Formula
Rampage IV GENE
P9X79WS

Rename the file
P9X79D.CAP
P9X79PRO.CAP
P9X79.CAP
SABERX79.CAP
R4E.CAP
R4F.CAP
R4G.CAP
P9X79WS.CAP

Try this before ripping out, reformat usb to fat32 or it wont even find the stick.

If possible test with another gpu, even if it works with another one its best to try.

Okay... MAJOR UPDATE..

My buddy had a spare 3820 chip to let me borrow to troubleshoot. I also tried a stick of Corsair XMS ram, and a ballistix stick. Lastly, I tried a Geforce (i think the 670) video card.

RAM didn't fix it.

Video card didn't fix it.

i7 3820 POSTED PERFECTLY!!!!!!!!!!

*PULLING HAIRS*

This is extremely weird. The mobo is confirmed to be in working order now. Again.. the 3930K works flawlessly on my RIVF mobo. So both components technically work... but they don't work together? :-/

Any ideas how this is possible and how to fix without having to sell off this 3930K and buy a new one? I've read a little bit about C2 stepping. I don't truly know what that means but... could that be an issue to look for here? Again... I was able to update the BIOS on the P9X79 to the most current. I also updated it to 2104 just to double check if maybe the new BIOS didn't work well.

Any help from anyone with this new breaking news would be ultra appreciated. The mobo is completely fine. No clue why they aren't working together.

^My 3930K works in my Rampage IV Formula.

Not in my P9X79 Pro.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. I can't even find anything online saying why this could be possible. How can it work in one mobo and not the other, taking into account the BIOS is updated.
So...

3930k works in RIVF, not in P9X79 so not CPU fault
3820 works in P9X79 though, so it isnt MB fault
PSU works in both, so isnt a problem

Im confused, all points towards nothing really, Its just random.
