ASUS P9X79 Pro with i7 3930k, won't post (CPU LED red light is on) - Page 3

Yup with no luck. One thing I wasnt sure upon was the 2 CPU Power supplies on the right of the CPU. I have the 8 pin one connected, but not the 4 pin one, surely it doesnt need any more power?
Also, there is nothing displaying on the 2 LED digital displays, so I assume it hasnt even passed the POST test yet?

From what I remember It should go during posts with different numbers least my old gene did. And the 8 and 4 pin should run together on the board so it shouldnt matter if only the 8 pin is plugged in. Sorry your having these troubles i cant think of what it is or what to do to help you already tried everything i would have.

For me... it was absolutely not the case.

I believe the socket fried itself and my CPU.. there was a small bit of thermal paste that got stuck on the outer edge of the socket (not in between the pins). I think it created a bad environment for the CPU and eventually shorted both out. Mobo wouldnt respond to ay CPUs and the 3930K was dead as well (tested on other mobos).

I ended up buying a new mobo (since i have no idea how to switch sockets) and Intel replaced my 3930K at no cost. So... I feel like I lucked out a bit. Everything has been working perfect now after the swap.
