Getting Fiio e7. Need <100$ headphone recommendation.

Thread Starter
Sup guys. I finally want to enhance my audio experience. I was always getting gaming headphones and using them on onboard realtek audio...
Now I am all set on getting Fiio e7 as an amp/dac and some new pair of headphones.

Here are my headphone needs (keep in mind sub 100$ price)
I will be listening mainly to game soundtracks(much of every type of music with little or no vocal), playing games and watching movies. I dont want microphone on headphones tho. no gaming set.
I am mostly with other people in the room, so headphone should be closed and isolate my sound from other people in the room. I am not expecting super isolation but reasonable for the price. Ears must breath a bit anyway. ohhh and I want skiny alike pads. i hate that plush stuff.
I like deep and rich bass.
Durability and detachable cable are not to be expected in sub 100$ i Guess but it would be nice to have those features. Tho they are going to be used only in home, in front of my desk. I will even make myself a wooden stand for headphones (I have a carpenter workshop, I will think of something tongue.gif ) and I always take a good care of my stuff, so should not be a problem here.

I have couple of candidates and did some research myself, but I won't post em. I want fully non biased recommendations thumb.gif
so: closed(well.. some open can be posted too if they are exceptionally good), over ear, skin(alike), bass, sub100

Why bother spending money on a headphone amp if the headphones you buy wont be power hungry enough to even need it. Your whole way about spending your money seems counter intuitive.

It will be strickly for use with my pc. Everyone is telling my to get fiio e7 anyway. That I will gain quality compared to onboard. I don't need ampplification really. onboard is quite loud

The sound difference between a small USB DAC and onboard is quite minimal, especially with such low end headphones I would suggest spending 20~ on an onboard card and buying a decent 200$ set of headphones. Otherwise you're just wasting your money. Is your music library FLAC files or just 320kb mp3?

192-320 mp3 mostly.
I don't want additional pci card in my pc. Maybe something external... but then external cards are just as expensive as fiio e7 which is said to blow em away tongue.gif
edit:
Right now I have creative tactic360 sigma. 50mm 32ohm big closed headphones. I am just using them from my front jack on pc and they actually sound quite good but I hate the very thin cable, plastic cheap feel and microphone jack... I never use microphone and red jack is just dangling all around.
They are very very loud and bass is loud (tho very shakey). overall they sound a bit... loose and fluffy if that says anything tongue.gif
if You are saying that I don't need amp/dac, you might be right, because they are very loud. But wouldnt fiio just help with sound quality ?

If all you have is 320kbs mp3 a DAC won't help in the slightest. Just get Sennheiser HD558's for 220~ depending on your nearest seller and have one of the comfiest/best sounding headphones you can get in terms of bang for buck.

Thanks for heads up. Those sens are a bit pricey but I don't like flush earbuds. I want skin/skinalike material. I had plush headphones and they get dirty after only few hours, are hard to clean and overall.. no.

what about Creative Aurvana Live! ?
I've heard plenty of fantastic opinions about those.

What is your budget?
Use that $100 budget you have for a headphone and get an E17 instead, just $40 more than the E7 and has a much better DAC.
Then for the rest of the $60, get a Superlux 681b or 668b. Alternatively, a Samson SR850 (which is basically a Superlux 668b) will also do fine if you can't get a Superlux for whatever reason.

The Creative Aurvana Live is a decent closed headphone, pretty tight on the sub-bass but somewhat uncontrolled on the mid-bass. It's also rather dark for my tastes, but you might like something like that. The Superlux I recommended above are much brighter headphones so go according to what your ears like.

Amping is just not for volume, many people tend to be mistaken over that. Everything else improves when amping, the entire curve of a headphone's characteristic will be amplified.

Do you mean velour pads by the "plushy" pads?
And by skin-like pads you mean leather pads?

Leather pads dont breathe that well, and velour pads breathe very well.
I have have Tritton PC510hda (leather), MMX2 (velour) and DT-770 pro (velour) headphones/headsets. The DT-770 velour pads beat all the rest in comfyness, and its very hard to get them dirty (grey color ftw).
Leather feels like... plain bad.
