980X & 480SLI to 4770K & Titan worth it? - Page 2

What im asking specially is will I see a performance increase going from 2 480s to 1 titan? @ 1080p

If not, then I dont know if I want to spend the money

No, you're FPS will probably drop slightly, but at 1080p it doesn't really matter...your FPS will be well over probably what? 120? 60 wasted frames is a lot to work with.

Not to mention the GTX 480 is a **** card in terms of it's design (heat, energy used to achieve performance, etc). Get a single 780 and don't look back.

As for the CPU, either keep the one you have now or get a 3930K. Next gen games will take use of 6 to 8 cores. Well, a lot of the newer games will.

Why 680SLI?

For best Price/Performance if he wanted to go dual card would be HD7950 CF. CF fix is coming ether this month or next, and even at it's current state really isn't as bad as Nvidia fanboy's think it is. HD7950 CF is good deal faster then a GTX780 for less cost. Plus it comes with games you could sell to make even more money back on the deal. Really he could sell his GTX480's and the games that come with the HD7950's and probably spend only 200-300 bucks total. Not bad for a Setup that would easily take on a Titan and Win.

Still would be using less power then his 480 setup.

If he did want to stay on green team (IDK why both sides are just as good as eachother, been going back and forth my whole life from the radeon 7500 days) then the GTX770 is still the better deal then GTX680.

GTX770 is faster then the GTX680 for less $$. Though for SLI I would still wait for gtx760, as it will probably still have only 2gb of V-Ram to work with.

I'm on 120hz monitor but I replaced 570 SLI (easily gamed at 900mhz) with a 690 and it worked out fine. I don't think a single card will give you the performance you are used to imo.

also would keep the 980x.

Really you think a 1 card solution, even if its a Titan could be "worse" or the same as 2 old 480's?

The Titan and GTX780 are both faster then SLI GTX480's in every way.
It will be smoother frame rate as you are getting a single card, but overall the increase in gpu power isn't that grand(difference is pure fps might not be as big as you think). But there will be a increase, probably 10+ fps in most games.
Also is newer tech and Nvidia is focused more on tailoring the drivers to kepler then fermi.

Your better off getting a gtx780 for your itx rig
Unless by the time you do end up buying everything and the HD8970 is out on the market, I would consider that as well. Though no point in waiting if you don't want to, especially on a non proven card yet.

Just to clear the air, 1 Titan is faster than 2 480s.

1 Titan is also more than enough for 1080p.

I would still advise you to take the 780 into consideration. It's a good amount cheaper and can leapfrog the Titan(Stock) when overclocked.

I'm kind of in the same boat as the OP, but on a 920 and sli GTX 470s.
I am wanting to build something new but this time I want a substantial upgrade from what I have and for you OP you should just upgrade gpus.
That 980x is still potent.
